Travel Updates to study in Australia

November 2020

With a globally revered education system and one of the lowest number of cases, Australia looks to continue the confidence it holds in the eyes of the students so that they can plan their study in Australia and travel when it is safe to do so.

In an attempt to ensure that students make an informed decision regarding their travel in Australia, rules for the visas were recently announced.

  • The Australian government recently announced alterations in the student visa forum in an attempt to mitigate the problems faced by international students looking to study in Australia.
  • The government is granting visas to those outside Australia. This means, that when the borders are opened, those students with visas will be able to travel.
  • Post-study work visas for students who are enrolled at universities in Australia will face relaxed entry requirements. Meaning, current as well as new students who are studying online due to the COVID-19, will have this duration counted towards their Australian Study Requirement. Those graduates affected by travel restrictions can apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa outside Australia.
  • Students who held a student visa on or after 1 February 2020 and couldn’t complete their course within the validity due to COVID-19 will receive a waiver in the visa application fee. This includes:

  1. Students who deferred their study as they were unable to enter Australia due to travel restrictions
  2. Students who were forced to reduce to a part-time study load
  3. Students were unable to complete their work-based training or placements.

  • Universities in Australia also require its applicants to furnish, requisite English language proficiency. Additional time to submit the same is provided to students. Biometric collection and health checks that are required to be submitted by the students will also be awarded additional time.
  • To ensure that students remain in the loop, we as Australian education consultants at Edwise encourage them to check the relevant websites for the same.

The health of the world remains a top priority currently, thus international students will be permitted to travel to Australia when it is safe to do so.

Universities in Australia are ensuring to offer all possible means of support to international students and thus, offer mental health and medical support, accommodation and food support, as well as the deferral of studies, payments and fees.

With these measures being brought into place for student visa Australia, students can expect a streamline of the process. As Australian education consultants, we urge our students that this is the perfect time to get their application in order, thus when the time is ready, they are ready to travel to Australia.
