The University's origins can be traced back to 1824, with the foundation of the Leeds Mechanics Institute. We have a mixture of old and new buildings on our campuses - the oldest building is at our Headingley Campus and dates back to 1752. We boast over 100 years' of quality teaching experience, delivered by leading practitioners with strong links to industries and the professions - many are world-renowned authorities in their fields. Many international figureheads have received honorary awards from us, including Haile Gebrselassie, regarded as one of the greatest distance runners of all time

More about our Headingley Campus
Headingley Campus has a rich and diverse history that goes back to Roman times. For centuries our campus was a family owned estate, which played host to visitors such as Oscar Wilde and Winston Churchill
Playing sport
The Carnegie Sports centre is home to world-class facilities including a newly refurbished gym, athletics track and field facilities, weightlifting centre, 21 metre swimming pool, sports halls, floodlit synthetic turf pitches and an indoor Tennis Centre
Eating out, eating in
A million miles away from school dinners, in the Food Court at our Headingley Campus you can choose from a large selection of foods, from Chinese to freshly made baguettes. The Food Court is also home to a coffee shop, the Carnegie merchandise shop and our campus shop where you can buy a selection of frozen and fresh food
Your Students Union
The Students' Union bar is certainly one of the busiest places on campus. Aside from the obvious liquid refreshments available, the SU also serves food throughout the day and hosts regular events and themed nights
City Campus
City Campus is home to award-winning learning environments such as Broadcasting Place, voted best tall building in the world in 2010. Other buildings include the Rose Bowl, home to our Business School, which was awarded Best Commercial Property Development in the 2009 Yorkshire Property awards. Just over the road from the Rose Bowl is the Leslie Silver building which houses one of our impressive libraries across five floors.
