 UCD Research
UCD is the national leader in fourth level education and has the highest number of graduate research students of any university in Ireland with over 1,684 PhD students. UCD has won over €480m in externally funded research contracts in the last five years alone. UCD has prioritised four major research themes which build on the university's established or emerging research strengths, dovetail with national research policy objectives and contribute to the preservation and exploration of Ireland's cultural heritage and the development of solutions for current global challenges.

Famous Alumni
Many of UCD's 160,000 alumni have made their mark in all areas of industry, arts, engineering, science, culture, sport and public life, in Ireland and abroad.
 Among our most accomplished alumni and faculty are three former presidents of Ireland: Douglas Hyde; Patrick Hillery; and Cearbhall Dalaigh. Other famous world leaders include:
- V. V. Giri, the fourth President of India studied law in UCD from 1913 to 1916.
- Former Taoisigh (Prime Ministers) of Ireland Charles Haughey, Garret FitzGerald, John Burton and Brian Cowen all attended UCD.
- Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr Hoang Trung Hai was at student at the UCD Smurfit School of Business.
