Technical University of Munich Asia (TUM Asia)

Technical University of Munich (TUM) is one of Europe’s leading universities: The Entrepreneurial University. Ever since its founding in 1868, TUM has been at the forefront of science and innovation, playing a vital role in Europe’s technological advancement and having the prestige of producing 13 Nobel Laureates. Some notable inventions from the TUM alumni include the refrigeration technology invented by Carl von Linde; the Dornier airplane by Claude Dornier; and the diesel engine, invented by Rudolf Diesel. TUM is also ranked as Germany’s #1 University in the 2015 QS Rankings and in the 2016 Shanghai Rankings (ARWU).

Having earned itself a reputation of being an institute that produces world-changing technologies, TUM strives to create lasting value for society through excellence in education and research, the active promotion of next-generation talent with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

Asian In Location, German In Execution

Through TUM’s unwavering commitment to the betterment of society, TUM Asia was set up in 2002 as the first academic venture abroad by a German university. Ever since, TUM Asia has been running joint Master Programmes conferred by TUM, together with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS), in topics such as Industrial Chemistry, Integrated Circuit Design, Green Electronics and Aerospace Engineering. Separately, TUM Asia hosts an individual degree from TUM in Transport & Logistics. Lecturers and professors come from as far as Germany and their wealth of knowledge from various fields provide a spectrum of experience for the students to glean from. Towards the end of the programme, students are able to complete their Master thesis and internship in any country in the world.

A One-Stop Higher Education Facility

TUM Asia also partners the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore’s newest University, to offer two Bachelor programmes; Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology; and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. In 2015, over one thousand students have come through the doors of TUM Asia and currently ply their trades in top research institutes and companies across the globe.

TUM CREATE, a research initiative by TUM Asia, was incepted in June 2010 to propagate research programmes where scientists and researchers from both Germany and Singapore work together for the advancement of science and technology. The research programme focuses on developing innovative systems that incorporate safety and reliability with functionality and energy efficiency in electric vehicles for tropical climates. In 2015, TUM CREATE, collaboration between Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Technical University of Munich (TUM), officially launched their prototype named EVA. EVA, an electrical car that was designed, developed and manufactured in Singapore, was purposed to function as a taxi for tropical climates.

Location & Facilities

With effect from 16 March 2015, TUM Asia moved into our new campus location at the SIT@SP building. For the first time, all our students will be housed in one location.
