    Missouri State University is a public, comprehensive university system with a mission in public affairs. Our purpose is to develop fully educated persons with a focus on ethical leadership, cultural competence and community engagement.

    Missouri State University (MSU or MO State formerly Southwest Missouri State University) is a public university located in Springfield, Missouri, United States and was founded in 1906. It is the state's second largest university, with an official enrollment of 22,385 in the fall 2014 semester. In 2011 students represented 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and 83 countries. The Springfield campus is one of two degree-granting institutions within the Missouri State University System, the other being a two-year campus in West Plains, Missouri. A bachelor of science in business from MSU is offered at the Missouri State University Branch Campus Dalian in the People's Republic of China. In addition to its main campus, MSU maintains a fruit research station in Mountain Grove and the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies program housed in Fairfax, Virginia.The school is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as one of six master's colleges and universities in Missouri.In the 2014 U.S. News and World Report the school was ranked 68th in the category Midwestern regional universities.

    Location & Facilities

    The Missouri State University campuses are structured to address the special needs of the urban and rural populations they serve. Missouri State University-Springfield is a selective admissions, graduate level teaching and research institution. Missouri State University-West Plains is an open admissions campus serving seven counties in south central Missouri. Missouri State University-Mountain Grove serves Missouri’s fruit industry through operation of the State Fruit Experiment Station.

    Missouri State Outreach provides learning opportunities through Internet-based instruction, interactive video network, and iCourses. The University also operates various other special facilities, such as the Darr Agricultural Center in southwest Springfield, the Jordan Valley Innovation Center in downtown Springfield, the Bull Shoals Field Station near Forsyth, Baker’s Acres and Observatory near Marshfield, the Missouri State University Graduate Center in Joplin, and the China Branch Campus at Liaoning Normal University (LNU) in Dalian, China.

    In addition, Missouri State has the operations and program offerings of one entire academic department, its Department of Defense and Strategic Studies, located near Washington, D.C. in Fairfax, Virginia.

Scholarships & Financial Aid for Indian Students

Donor funded scholarships are privately donated funds that are given to Missouri State students each year. The funds come from private gifts to the University made by individuals, groups or companies. They are awarded to students based on a wide range of criteria: major, high school attended, outstanding academic achievement, leadership and/or financial need.

Need-Based Scholarship for Graduate Students Value:

$1,000 per semester. Total potential value is $3,000.

Number available:

50 per year (spring, summer, and fall semesters combined)

Application:

  • Must submit the Need-Based Scholarship for Graduate Students Application by the following deadlines prior to the beginning of the semester you are admitted for:

Fall semester: June

Spring semester: November 15

Summer session: April 1

Selection criteria

To qualify, students must:

  • Be admitted to and enrolled at least half-time (5 credit hours in fall or spring; 3 credit hours in summer) in a graduate program within one year of receiving a bachelor’s degree (e.g., students who graduate in May must enroll in a graduate program the following summer, fall, or spring semester);
  • Have qualified for a Pell Grant during their final year as an undergraduate;
  • Have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the semester of their initial enrollment in a graduate program showing an EFC that would qualify for Pell if enrolled as an undergraduate; and,
  • Have an undergraduate grade point average (either overall or on the last 60 credit hours) of at least 3.25.

If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of scholarships available, preference will be given to MSU graduates. Further selections, if needed, will be made by a selection committee appointed by the Graduate College Office and based on a combination of grade point average, need, and other factors.
