Marist College - Overview

  • Introduction

Marist achievements are increasingly being recognized at national level. Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine has consistently named Marist one of the "50 Best Value in Private Colleges" along with the top schools such as Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, MIT and Princeton. In another distinction, Marist was named one of "The Best 371 Colleges in America" by the TIME/Princeton Review. Likewise Marist is ranked among the top tier of colleges and universities in the northern United States by US News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges". Finally Marist College has been recognized as one of the top four colleges and universities in America in the use of networking technology in and out of the classroom in 1975, by CAUSE, the association for managing and using information resources in higher education.
Marist has become known as one of the most technologically advanced institutions of higher education in the country as the result of its longstanding partnership with its neighbor IBM.

Marist College recognizes the importance and geopolitical significance of India as a country on a fast development track with a growing population of young graduates that are highly motivated, intelligent and aspire to obtain higher education, and has set up a vigorous recruitment program in India for its Graduate Computer Science and Information Systems Programs. On an average, college admits about 25 students every year in these two programs. In the wake of the horrific terrorist attack in Mumbai, Dr. Dennis Murray, President of Marist College had this to say in a memorandum sent to the College community …."the College has enjoyed a long relationship with India and has benefited from the many contributions of the Indian students who study here"
Marist College offers 32 undergraduate and 10 graduate programs. Whereas an international student can apply directly for any of these programs. The College sends a senior executive twice a year to India for admitting students to its Master of Science in Computer Science, and Master of Science in Information Systems Programs.
    Location & Facilities
The College is located on 240 acres along the eastern and western shores of the historic Hudson River and is within two hours of New York City by rail road, bus, or cab. There are 50 buildings on the campus including 37 undergraduate student housing facilities. James A. Cannavino Library is the signature building and has been hailed by the New York Times as a "high tech complex". The Hancock Center scheduled to be completed by 2010 will be one of the most advanced technology infrastructures in the county and will place Marist firmly among the top academic institutions in the nation doing leading-edge research. This is where the Computer Science and Information System programs will be located. The Center for Collaboration and on-Demand Computing (ICCODC) which helps local business grow will also be located in this building. It offers opportunities for excellent technical training to international students through internships.

International students normally live in rented apartment which are reasonably priced and within walking distance from the Main Campus. The College Housing Office does facilitate this process.
