International Aviation Academy of New Zealand : The Best Path to the Aviation Industry

International Aviation Academy of New Zealand - Overview

  • Introduction

Located at Christchurch International Airport in a stand-out, modern complex is the International Aviation Academy of New Zealand (IAANZ), the home to around 100 commercial pilot and flight instructor trainees per year

The International Aviation Academy of New Zealand (IAANZ) is the Professional flight training division of New Zealand's largest Aero Club, the Canterbury Aero Club (established 1928.)

The International Aviation Academy of New Zealand holds New Zealand Qualification Authority (NZQA) and the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (NZ CAA) Part 141 approval for flight training

The Academy is unique in that it operates from a large international airport, with full instrument approach aids. The experience gained in this airline environment gives our graduates a significant advantage when pursuing an aviation career

Additionally its own satellite airfield at West Melton is clear of busy airspace, and provides an ideal alternative, particularly for students during early stages of training. With a fleet of 30 aircraft and one the most experienced instructing teams in Australasia, the IAANZ has long been the ‘trainer of choice’ for those pilots heading towards an airline career

As a preferred training partner in Air New Zealand’s Aviation Institute, the IAANZ’s training programmes have been designed to deliver ‘airline ready’ pilots who are well matched to the changing demands of the airline industry

The advantages of training at an International airport are huge, and allow trainee pilots to develop skills in a truly professional airline environment

    Location & Facilities

The International Aviation Academy is located in Christchurch City, New Zealand, on the West side of Christchurch International Airport, about 8km from the centre of the city.

The Academy is unique in that it has access to both a grass runway located directly in front of the Academy's buildings and to two international standard sealed runways. We also have our own satellite airfield at West Melton, just six minutes flight time from Christchurch.

The Academy has impressive facilities that include a large fleet of aircraft ranging from 2 seat trainers to multi engine instrument flight rating trainers, 2 aircraft hangars, an engineering work shop, 3 large air-conditioned lecture room, 9 pre or post flight briefing rooms, a flight planning area, flight simulators, a large viewing lounge with a deck that looks out onto the airport and the port hills of Christchurch, several small meeting rooms and an on site café.

There is also an on site bar and social facilities.
