    Northern Lights College is B.C.'s Energy Collegeā„¢, serving northern British Columbia in an area covering more than 324,000 square kilometres.

    NLC opened in 1975. NLC has campus locations in Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, and Tumbler Ridge, along with access centres in Atlin, Dease Lake and Hudson's Hope.

    NLC is a member of British Columbia Colleges (BC Colleges), a provincial group comprised of 11 colleges from throughout the Province of British Columbia. BC Colleges has a unique regional advantage and a long history of collaboration with industry, employers, communities and policy makers. This collaborative approach allows BC Colleges to graduate highly skilled workers who are equipped to support their families, build healthier communities and power the economy in all regions of British Columbia. Programs at NLC are designed to provide you with the opportunity to obtain the necessary classroom education, and supplement that with appropriate practicum or hands-on opportunities to make the successful transition from student to employee.

    You have a number of options, depending on your chosen career path. You can earn a certificate, diploma, or associate degree. Certificate programs are usually one year in duration. Diploma programs take two years. Associate degrees take two years of study (60 credits), and can be used to transfer to the third year of degree programs at provincial universities and university-colleges. Ensure the transferability of courses when making your educational plans.

    Location & Facilities

    Northern Lights College has eight campuses. The largest international student program is located on the Fort St. John Campus. However, all of the other campuses welcome international students.

    The College region is approximately 325,000 square kilometers in area and is occupied by about 70,000 people. Most of the population lives along the world famous Alaska Highway which begins in Dawson Creek and ends in Fairbanks, Alaska.

    How Do I Get To NLC?

    Driving time from Vancouver by car is about 15 hours, by bus about 21 hours and by air 1.5 hours.

    Fort St. John is served by Air Canada Jazz and West jet which has several daily flights to Fort St. John direct from the Vancouver International Airport Main Terminal. Dawson Creek is served by Central Mountain Air, which has daily flights weekdays direct to Dawson Creek from the Vancouver International Airport Main Terminal.

    Facilities

    NLC has videoconference facilities available at all campuses. Videoconferencing is utilized for a number of courses in different program areas. Some program areas are offered via online instruction, others through distributed delivery, and some through the use of mobile training facilities.

    At NLC, you will be provided with the training and education to:

    • step directly into one of 15 different trades and apprenticeships,
