Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology : Where Career-Oriented Students Achieve Their Goals

Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology - Overview

  • Introduction

MITT provides certificate, post-graduate, and diploma-level technical training for career-oriented post-secondary and secondary students in four clusters of specialization: business and information technology, health care, human services, and skilled trades.

A hallmark of MITT’s approach is its deep collaboration with industry. Together, they identify skills gaps—both technical and soft—develop curriculum to meet them, and create work practicum opportunities that help students build connections with prospective employers while they learn.

The learning environment at MITT supports students’ academic, professional, and personal success: industry veteran instructors teach, mentor, and serve as industry connection points; and teams of staff ensure the campus community is safe and inviting and that students have access to the information and resources they need to excel in their programs and successfully bridge from the classroom to a career.

MITT is a leading provider of continuing education opportunities through its Lifelong Learning Institute, and offers several unique pathway programs for adult and language learners, including: MITT YouthBuild, the English Language Institute, ESL for qualifying newcomers to Canada, one of Manitoba’s largest Adult Learning Centre networks.

Scholarships & Financial Aid for Indian Students

Bursaries are offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring terms each year for domestic students with a demonstrated financial need and minimum academic standing. Bursaries provide support to current MITT students for their living expenses while studying.

Student bursaries are funded by MITT along with generous donations from business and industry such as the RBC Convention Centre, CentrePort, and the Louise and Allan Windas Bursary (Winnipeg Foundation). Bursaries are also supported by private individuals and families, as seen with the Joe Sawtus and Canadian Motorcycle Motosport Bursary and the Dave Holden Bursary in Culinary Arts.

Throughout Manitoba and across Canada, there are many organizations that sponsor scholarships for students. Future and current MITT students are encouraged to research and apply for every scholarship and award opportunity where they meet some or all of the selection criteria.

Students should search for scholarships specific to an industry or program of study, as well as for other interests and activities they are involved with. Examples include: sports affiliations, volunteerism and community involvement; associations with religious or cultural groups; union or corporate scholarships through parents or family member's employers.

Graduate Awards

MITT Graduate Awards recognize the outstanding student achievements and are awarded at convocation each year. Students are nominated for MITT Program Excellence and industry-sponsored awards based on grades, practicum performance, leadership, as well as citizenship and volunteerism.
