Scholarships & Financial Aid for Indian Students

The costs of a university education can often be supported through scholarship and bursary programs that offer students an opportunity to apply for monies based on academic merit, financial need or other specific criteria.

Cape Breton University has a guaranteed entrance scholarship program for students entering directly from high school. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that a transcript following completion of the first semester of Grade 12 is forwarded from his/her high school to Cape Breton University by March 1st. If you achieve an average of 85% or higher, you will be guaranteed a minimum entrance scholarship as follows:

  • 95% or higher average - minimum of $10,000 (renewable at $2,500 per year for 4 years)
  • 90% or higher average - minimum of $8,000 (renewable at $2,000 per year for 4 years)
  • 88% or higher average - minimum of $2,500 ($1,000 entrance, renewable at $500 per year for 4 years)
  • 85% or higher average - minimum of $2,000 (renewable at $500 per year for 4 years)

There are also a number of larger scholarships available to students who have high academic standing. To be considered for these awards, students must complete an Entrance Scholarship Application.

These awards are as follows:

Chancellor's Scholarship - $24,000 (renewable at $6,000 per year for 4 years) President's Scholarship - $20,000 (renewable at $5,000 per year for 4 years) Marquis Scholarship - $12,000 (renewable at $3,000 per year for 4 years)

In-Course Scholarships

Cape Breton University offers a number of in-course awards to students who have achieved an 80% or higher average after completing one year of study at CBU (minimum 24 credits). There is no application required for these awards as they are based solely on academic grades and recipients will be contacted after the Fall/Winter semester to inform them they are in receipt of the award.

Bursaries

Cape Breton University offers both entrance and in-course bursaries. Students entering directly from high school who wish to be considered for an entrance bursary must complete a financial form to determine their financial need. Current CBU students must complete the in-course bursary application which is available between mid-November and closes mid-January each year. In-course bursaries are awarded in second semester and are based on financial need.

Work Study Program

A new program being launched for the fall of 2015 will see part-time on-campus jobs posted for students with financial need to apply to. Please check back for more details in mid-August on the steps required to apply for these positions.
