University college intakes in the USA are divided into three categories:

  1. Fall Intake
  2. Spring Intake and
  3. Summer Intake

Fall Intake in the USA

  • Also known as the September intake.
  • This intake commences in late August right till December or early January.
  • Primary intake in the USA.
  • A wide array of courses to study in USA are offered during the Fall intake.
  • With a large number of students opting for this intake, more funding is provided.
  • Numerous us colleges and universities have just the fall intake for the admission process.
  • Multiple scholarships and employment opportunities are acquirable during this intake.


Spring intake in the USA

  • Commences in January and ends in early May.
  • Also known as the January intake.
  • Secondary intake in the USA.
  • In comparison to the Fall intake, comparatively fewer courses are offered during the Spring intake.
  • Less preferred by students since it late commencement.
  • The Spring intake can be applied to, by one has who missed the Fall intake.


Summer intake in the USA

  • The Summer intake for universities in USA is the shortest of all three, commencing in June and lasting for just two- three months.
  • In this intake, only a few departments are open and offer courses.
  • Courses in the USA during the Summer intake include language programs for non- English speaking students or specialized cultural programs.
  • A good number of scholarships are offered during this intake.


Entry Requirements to study in the USA


English Language Requirement

  • Depending on the course one is opting for, the required English Language Proficiency is a must.
  • IELTS- For undergraduates: 6- 6.5 band For graduates: 6.5- 7 band
  • TOEFL- For undergraduates: 70- 80 For postgraduates: 80- 90
  • PTE exam score- 60


Academic Requirements

Following are the academic requirements for study in the USA:

  • ACT/ SAT scorecard
  • Official Transcripts issued by the previous school/ college
  • 2- 3 academic Letters of Recommendation from Professors who have recently taught you
  • Statement of Purpose(SOP)
  • Proof of funds availability for 1 year of tuition fee
  • Other documents

Timeline for College Intakes


1. Do your research:

  • Prepare Passport
  • Begin by researching about colleges and university courses
  • Gather information through consultants, events and education fairs
  • Register and prepare for the entrance exams (TOEFL, SAT, etc.)

2. Take the standardized tests:

  • Select the universities you will apply to
  • Obtain all necessary information and forms for each school
  • Prepare for and take all required entrance exams

3. Application Documentation:

One should collate all documentation so that within the timeline, you have everything in place-

  • Covering Letter
  • Application Fees
  • Application Form
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Essays
  • Resume
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Transcripts
  • Bank Certificate
  • Affidavit of Financial Support
  • Report of test scores

4. Admission Confirmations:

  • Once again appear for entrance exams if your earlier scores were unsatisfactory
  • Line up all required financing
  • If you are eligible for scholarships, apply for the same and other funding options to lessen your financing
  • All college applications should be completed and submitted

5. Student Visa:

  • Apply for your student visa well in advance. Casual mistakes with insufficient knowledge about the student visa formalities can lead to unwanted delays, and in some cases, refusal of a visa.
  • International students pursuing an English Language Program or an academic program at us colleges and universities, are issued an F1 visa.

Process

  1. 1. To obtain I- 20 from the College/ University
  2. 2. To obtain SEVIS FEE Receipt
  3. 3. To complete DS- 160 Form
  4. 4. To pay Visa Application Fees
  5. 5. Schedule Appointment
  6. 6. Attend Appointment Scheduled
  7. 7. Passport Collection if visa is granted

6. Accommodation, Health and Travel Arrangements:

  • On Campus: Halls of Residence/ Students hostel
  • Off Campus: Home stay, Apartments/Flats
  • Health insurance options should be researched
  • Air Ticket
  • Airport pickup
  • Forex
