How to Study Abroad After the 12th?

In recent years the trend to complete undergraduate studies in India, gain work experience and then pursue a Master's has witnessed a significant shift. Nowadays, a significant number of students from India, decide to pursue their study abroad after the 12th. Here's how you can study abroad at top destinations after your 12th grade.

Study Abroad



UK

  • There are a host of popular cities in UK that include a range of top universities that you can study at. The main intake at universities in UK is Sep/Oct. Few universities offer Jan/Feb intakes as well.
  • The minimum IELTS score at universities is 6.0 for undergraduate programs. Some UK Universities take into consideration the marks scored in English in XII. If students have scored up to 75%, some universities waive off the English requirement. Some universities also accept TOEFL and PTE scores.
  • Most ranked Universities require 80-85% for Engineering, Law and Management. Some Universities with a high ranking for specific subjects might also require a minimum of 90%. IB: 38-40 points and A levels -AAA preferred. Entry requirements for Humanities, Arts, Social Science & Computer Science is 70-80%.
  • Students who wish to study in UK from India but have scored lower than 60% in XII can choose Foundation and Diploma courses which help them get into better-ranked Universities.
  • Students pursuing UG courses in UK should have completed 18 years of age before commencing the program.


USA

  • Undergraduate courses in USA are four years in duration. Universities in USA have 3 intakes: Fall: August/September, Spring: January/February and Summer: April/May.
  • All students must have the required English language proficiency to study in USA. TOEFL score of 70-80 for Undergraduate studies and an IELTS score of 6.0- 6.5 is required. Over 3000 institutions in the USA recognize the IELTS & PTE exam.
  • Entry Requirements to study in USA for Indian students for undergraduate programs include 10+2 years of education, strong academic background, good scores in entrance exams like SAT/ACT & TOEFL/IELTS/PTE.


Canada

  • With a plethora of services for international students, a large number of Indian students aspire to study in Canada. The alluring stay-back opportunities are the major pull factors.
  • To study an undergraduate program in Canada students must clear HSC in First Class. And should have cleared the IELTS/TOEFL (ibt) exams successfully complying with the conditions laid down by the university. An IELTS band of 6.0/6.5 or a TOEFL score of 80 and above for undergraduate courses in Canada is desirable.


Australia

  • Some of the best student cities are located in Australia and thus, it comes as no surprise that students flock to study in Australia. Australia generally has two intakes i.e. February and July, with few Universities offering multiple intakes in September & November.
  • A good academic record in a High School Certificate or 12 years of schooling is required to study for Bachelor's programs in Australia. Some courses such as Computing and Engineering will require Mathematics and /or Science as pre-requisites. 6.0 IELTS / 79 TOEFL / 50-58 PTE are some indicative scores required as well.


New Zealand

  • Study in New Zealand for Indian students after 12th may occur at New Zealand universities, the course of study for a Bachelor's degree consists of a prescribed number of units, papers or courses. In each subject, there are usually first-year (stage I or 100—level), second-year (stage 2 or 200 level) and third-year (stage 3 or 300 level) courses. A second-year course may be commenced only after prescribed passes in the subject at stage I and a third-year course only after required passes in the subject at stage 2.
