Reading, Writing and Speaking. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP-
Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL EXAMINATIONS. It is graded on a scale of 0-9,
and is valid for a period of 2 years
IELTS has two types of modules - Academic and General Training. Academic Module is
required to be given by students who plan to study at an undergraduate or a postgraduate
level. While, General Training Module is generally a prerequisite for the people who
either want to pursue vocational studies or plan to immigrate

Listening has 4 sections and 40 questions in all. It lasts for 40
minutes, which includes time to transfer the answers to the main answer sheet
Reading has 3 passages and 40 questions in total. Candidates are given an hour to
complete reading comprehension. Time management here is very important. The candidate
should give 20 minutes per passage
Writing (Academic Module) has 2 writing tasks. The total time alloted for this section
is 1 hour.
Task 1 is primarily report writing (explaining diagrams and charts, making comparisons
where needed). Task 1 must not be less than 150 words, the time alloted for this task is
20 minutes
Task 2 is an essay and candidates are required to draft an essay on the topic given.
This essay must not be less than 250 words. Students are advised to spend 40 minutes on
the same
General Training Module also has 2 writing tasks. Task1 presents a Letter Prompt (formal
or informal). Candidates must write at least 150 words for the same. Task 2 is the same
as that of academic module
Speaking has 3 parts and lasts for about 11-14 minutes. It is on a one-to-one basis with
the candidate

work, studies, hobbies etc. This part lasts for 4 to 5 minutes
Part 2: In this part, the candidate is given a topic to speak on, this topic is printed
on a task card
The candidates are given one minute to think and can even note down points. They have to
speak on the given topic for about 1 minute. This part lasts for 3 to 4 minutes
Part 3 is a two way discussion with the examiner (these questions are related to the
part 2 topic). The discussion lasts for 4 to 5 minutes
Tips for the IELTS
1. Look for Keywords in the passages for reading comprehension
2. Be attentive when you listen to the audio, DO NOT miss out on questions
3. Be loud and clear when you speak, understand the question, be sure to fully answer
the questions directed to you
4. Remember that your personal opinion in Task 1 is NOT needed. Be sure to just write
about what you see in the report and make comparisons where needed
5. Plan your essay in Task 2, be sure not to drift away from the topic at hand. Be clear
with your points and the way that you organise your ideas
What Edwise Students Says...
“I am very thankful to Edwise for helping me score an 8.0 band in
my IELTS. I joined the IELTS classes with a lot of apprehensions. But from the first
class itself I felt extremely comfortable. The faculty here has provided me with
personal training and this has helped me clear my examination with flying colors. I
would once again like to thank the entire staff of Edwise who helped my dream come
true.”
Shruti Preman - IELTS Coaching
“My experience with Edwise coaching was very good! I started
coaching with 5 other students and with no appropriate knowledge or idea about IELTS,
its procedures and protocols. My faculty was a boon to us by giving us not only the
thorough insight of the IELTS, but made it a fun process for us. To me personally, I
couldn't have expected a better teacher for it. The faculty at Edwise not just makes us
feel involved, but gives us a good support especially in disciplines that we lack in.
The teaching pedalogy at Edwise helps us find our strengths and weakness & ace the
exams. The job and concern not just ends after IELTS, but also follows up with us on our
exam and our results.”
Vizak Gagrat -IELTS Coaching
“After enrolling in Edwise I felt that I am at the right place to
pursue further higher education, because the knowledge and the guidance given by the
faculty here gave me a positive look towards my goal. The coaching was well planned and
proper attention was given by the faculty guiding me. I have already suggested few of my
friends to go forward with IELTS through Edwise coaching.”
