  • Fosters programs that link University resources to local, national and international communities in collaborative efforts to alleviate ignorance, poverty, injustice and hunger; extend compassionate care to the ill and needy; and maintain and improve the quality of life for all persons.
  • Strives continuously to seek means to build upon its Catholic, Jesuit identity and to promote activities that apply its intellectual and ethical heritage to work for the good of society as a whole.
  • Welcomes students, faculty and staff from all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds and beliefs and creates a sense of community that facilitates their development as men and women for others.

Scholarships

There are two main ways to help finance a Saint Louis University education:

  • Scholarships: awarded based on academic achievement, service, leadership and financial need.

  • Financial Aid: comes in the form of grants and loans, some of which will have to be repaid.

Scholarships

Billiken, Ignatian, University, Deans' and Vice Presidents' Scholarships
These four-year merit-based scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $16,000 per year, are available to incoming freshmen. These scholarships do not require a separate scholarship application; the Application for Freshman Admission automatically qualifies applicants for consideration.

For priority consideration for these merit-based scholarships, applicants should apply for admission by Dec. 1. After the priority deadline, scholarships will be awarded as funds are available.

Jesuit High School Award

All applicants who graduate from a Jesuit high school will automatically receive Saint Louis University's Jesuit High School Award, valued at $3,000 per year. Receipt of the Jesuit High School Award recognizes a student's continued commitment to receiving an education in the Jesuit tradition.

As with the merit-based scholarships listed above, students should submit a completed application by Dec. 1 to guarantee consideration. If a Jesuit high school student also receives one of the university's merit-based scholarships, The Jesuit high school award can be combined with that scholarship up to -- but not exceeding -- the cost of full tuition.

Presidential and Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships
SLU also offers two merit-based scholarships that require separate applications: the Presidential Scholarship and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship. The separate applications for these scholarships are available online beginning July 1 of each year. The application deadline for the Presidential Scholarship is Dec. 1; the deadline for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is Feb. 1.

Financing a Saint Louis University Education
  • 97 percent of first-time freshmen were awarded financial aid assistance in 2010-2011.
  • More than $44 million in financial aid was awarded to first-time freshmen in 2010-2011.  Of this total, 68 percent was awarded in the form of scholarship or grant assistance.
  • Saint Louis University scholarship programs are awarded based on academic merit, talents, service, leadership and financial need.
  • The average financial aid package for a 2010-2011 first-time freshman totaled $27,805.
