The University of East Anglia (UEA) is an internationally renowned university based in a campus that provides top quality academic, social and cultural facilities to over 13,000 students.
UEA is ranked amongst the top three for student satisfaction according to the first National Student Survey and in the top 20 in the UK by the Sunday Times. It also came top of the most recent research effectiveness league table published by Research Fortnight.
Located in 320 acres of rolling parkland but just two miles from the centre of the cathedral city of Norwich the University is adjacent to the Norwich Research Park which is home to over 1,000 scientists working in several world ranked institutions.
Sporting facilities on campus include the University Sportspark which houses an Olympic sized swimming pool and regularly hosts international sporting events. UEA also has the world famous Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and hosts an International Literary Festival which has included famous names such as Ian McEwan and Kazuo Ishiguro (both alumni of UEA's Creative Writing course).
Nearly 90% of our research was rated of international excellence in the latest (2008) Research Assessment Exercise, with over 50% ‘world leading’. Norwich has the fourth greatest concentration of ‘most highly cited researchers’ in the UK, after London, Oxford and Cambridge - thanks to the University and its Norwich Research Park partners. In a survey of top institutions researching geosciences over the last decade, the University of East Anglia was the third university in the world, just after Harvard and Princeton. (Thomson Reuters Essential Science Indicators 2009)
We have a reputation for innovative courses: our pioneering Environmental Sciences and International Development schools bring together experts from a number of fields to work collaboratively; we offered the first Creative Writing degree in the UK and our recently introduced MBA in Strategic Carbon Management is a world first.
Location & Facilities
Norwich was recently cited (by The Independent) as one of the 'coolest' student cities in the UK and offers a good mix of heritage with a lively night life and has been voted one of the UK's top 10 shopping centres. The city is close to stunning coastline and the Broads National Park. It takes under two hours by train to London, and 45 minutes by air (from the small international airport) to Amsterdam, which offers flights all over the world.
Our stunning campus, just 15 minutes from the centre of Norwich, has won over 20 awards for architecture. First-year undergraduates from outside Norwich are guaranteed one of our 3,500 campus bedrooms, (many en-suite) if you apply promptly. The Architects' Journal has voted our orginal residences - the ziggurats - in the top ten examples of university architecture in the country.
UEA is very pleased that our accommodation was voted best in the UK for accommodation in the 2009 Whatuni awards (www.whatuni.com), 3rd in the 2009 National Student Housing Survey and achieved the joint highest score in the Times Higher Education Student Experience 2009 for Accommodation.
