Oxford Brookes University began life as the Oxford School of Art in 1865, In 1891, the School was taken over by Oxford City Council's Technical Instruction Committee and renamed Oxford City Technical School. In 1956, the institution was renamed yet again, becoming the Oxford College of Technology. ,the Oxford College of Technology became Oxford Polytechnic in 1970. Six years later, it acquired a new campus at Wheatley, just outside the city centre, when it amalgamated with Lady Spencer-Churchill teacher training college, and in 1988 it incorporated the Oxford School of Nursing.Oxford Polytechnic became a university in 1992 under government legislation.

Oxford Brookes University has three main campuses.
- Headington campus
- Wheatley campus
- Harcourt Hill campus
The University has three main campuses in Oxford which are all within easy reach of each other and Oxford city centre via the Brookes Bus. Each campus has its own student accommodation, library, food outlets, cafes and sports facilities.
Headington Campus, the largest campus, is home to the Student’s Union, a bank, and a Blackwell’s bookshop. We also have our very own Media Centre with a professional graphics and print service that is available to all students.
The Division manages 2656 rooms directly and a further 750 through its PFI partner, a total of 3406 student bedrooms in Halls of Residence. In addition Accommodation Services has nomination rights to 249 purpose built en-suite rooms for continuing
students with Dominion Housing on their Southfield Road and Windmill Road developments.
The Division also manages rooms through its full and part-managed property schemes. Accommodation Services allocates rooms to over 4000 students each year and assists many others to find non-University managed accommodation
