Newcastle is Australia's second oldest city (after Sydney), is New South Wales' second largest city, and the sixth largest city in Australia. Newcastle combines a country setting with all the advantages of city and beachside living.

 

The University of Newcastle operates on two main campuses, the largest set on a 140 hectare natural bush land site is at Callaghan, about 12 kilometres west of the Newcastle city centre. The other, located on an 85 hectare site adjacent to national parkland, is on the Central Coast at Ourimbah, about halfway between Newcastle and Sydney. The University’s Conservatorium of Music, Legal Centre and Graduate School of Business are all located near Civic Park in the centre of Newcastle. The University of Newcastle has recently opened its Sydney Presence in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Intake

The academic year at the University, for the majority of undergraduate programs, is divided into two 14-week semesters with a 5-week break between each. For some postgraduate programs, the University operates a trimester system, details of which are listed below.
