How to Apply

Undergraduate applications

Applying for full-time and sandwich undergraduate awards

Applications for most full-time and sandwich undergraduate degree and diploma programmes are usually made through UCAS - the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service

But as a general guide, applications can be made to UCAS , applications can be made to UCAS between September and mid-January. Late applications, between mid-January and the end of June, will only be considered at the discretion of the institution. Forms received after this are held for Clearing.

Entry requirements – have you got what it takes?

There are various ways you can show us that you have the right academic grounding – or professional experience - to take on a higher education course. The main entry routes are covered below.

Remember, whichever road you take, we appreciate the work you put in to get here. When the university look at your application, it will consider your achievements and your potential. This might include:

  • Qualifications such as:

    • AVCE Double Award (which replaced Advance GNVQ)

    • GCE A Levels and/or AVCE

    • GCE AS Levels and/or AS VCE Levels

    • Key Skills

    • Access to Higher Education

    • BTEC National Award/Diploma Level 3

  • Personal/work experience and achievements

  • References

  • Interviews/Assessments

BTEC Certificates and Diplomas (Level 3)

BTEC Certificate and Diploma awards are structured into 6, 12 and 18-unit awards, and are rated on the UCAS Tariff.

For the older structure of award, it equates a Diploma pass at 120-140 UCAS Tariff points, a pass with four merits at 160–180 points and a pass with four distinctions at 200-220 points.

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) (Level 3)

The high work-based content of an NVQ means that they are not normally considered for entry onto a degree course on their own.

That said, it considers NVQs from mature applicants who have a substantial working background in the area they want to study and who have literally 'learned from experience'.

Also, someone with NVQ Level 3 could enter a more practically-oriented course, like an HND – we’ll take every application on its individual merits.

Postgraduate and part-time applications

Postgraduate and part-time applications

Apply direct to the University for Postgraduate and part-time courses by filling Application forms.

Applying for second or final years

Applicants applying for direct entry into the second or final year of a programme should also apply through UCAS. Simply state on the form your point of entry and include as much information as you can about the qualifications you have which may exempt you from the earlier stages of the programme.
