Halls of residence

Student serving dinner to her friendsLiving in halls of residence is the option many people choose if they are coming from outside the region.

It’s a great way to find your feet quickly and make the friends that you’ll keep through your entire university career and beyond. It also means you will be close to the University’s facilities.

The University offers over 2,000 places in Halls of residence across the four campuses most have wireless internet access, all have inclusive insurance . All rooms are furnished, over 900 have en-suite bathrooms (split between the City and Telford Campuses) and many are built with the needs of disabled people in mind. Read on for details of what it has to offer in the Halls, plus information for New or imminent arrivals -

About the Halls of residence
It offers inclusive insurance cover as part of the package, details of which can be found in the Fees and payment section. The University provides wireless internet access at its Wolverhampton (City), Compton Park and Telford campuses.

Although priority is given to first year and international students, demand can be high and rooms are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so if you are considering this option, it’s worth getting your application in early.

You will be allocated a room in the hall closest to the campus where you’ll be studying. To find out which hall is relevant to you.

Although many of the rooms are built with everyone's needs in mind, students with disabilities should contact us as soon as possible so that it can do all it can to make sure they have everything they need.

Renting privately

It can give you impartial advice on renting privately, and put you in touch with landlords that have been checked out via the University Accreditation scheme.

Renting privately

If you don’t manage to get into halls or perhaps you just prefer to find somewhere for yourself, then you can make arrangements to rent privately – you’ll find a wide choice of accommodation available and it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Rent is typically from £35-40 per week, but when comparing this to what you pay in Halls, remember that you need to add the full range of household bills to these basic prices.

These properties will have been inspected by the University, local Council or Students' Union and will have up to date gas and electrical safety certificates.

And remember, if you do rent a house that is not registered, you MUST ensure you have seen the properties CURRENT gas certificate - carbon monoxide is tasteless, odourless, and can kill ... be safe, always check.

Also, make sure you have read any contracts thoroughly and you understand them before you sign, especially if entering into a contract from abroad.
