Student Services & Support Centres
Computer Access
The Mokoia campus in Rotorua has 4 Open Access Computer
Suites for Waiariki students to use. Access to the Computer
Suites are free of charge to Waiariki Institute of Technology
students. Students can only use the Computer Suites to write
assignments, check their Waiariki Emails and undertake
research projects using the Internet. The Suites are open from
Monday to Saturday (until midday).
Te Rutoi-A-Tini Macolm Murchie Library
The student learning centre library contains a range of
resources to meet all student study needs. An information
literacy system is available to show students how to use
library resources effectively. Friendly library staff can
also assist students in finding and using library databases
for research purposes. The Library is open Monday to Saturday
and resources include: reference journals, photocopies,
databases, CD-ROMS, videos, cassettes and books.
Health & Counselling Services
Waiariki Medical Centre has 2 health nurses available to
provide free and comprehensive assessments. The medical
centre also has a regular doctor's clinic which provides
discounted health services to Waiariki students.
The Counselling Centre has qualified and experienced full
time counsellors providing free and confidential services to
Waiariki students. If you are experiencing depression, stress
or facing personal or academic problems then please visit the
supportive counsellors in M Block.
International Students can access Nurses, Doctors,
Counsellors and Learning Support - however they cannot access
any support that is funded by SSG.
Learner Support
The Learner Support Unit provides free academic assistance
to students who are wanting additional academic support from a
qualified tutor. The Learner Support Officer can provide the
following assistance: English language support, examination
techniques and study skills assistance.
Nga Tamariki O Te Waiariki Educare Centre
Based on campus Waiariki's Educare Centre provides high
quality and supportive child care for dependents of Waiariki
students. Educare Centre offers reasonable rates to fit any
student's budget,full time and casual care is available. If
you are seeking child care services while you study, please
enquire through the International Student Office for
application details.
Printery
For all your photocopy and printing requirements. Coloured
paper copying is available. The Printery Office is located at
the back of I Block.
International Student Support Officers
International Student Support Officers provide pastoral
care and accommodation services to international students. So
if you are experiencing personal or academic problems and just
need some friendly advice then see Rebecca, Ada or Kavitha for
assistance. Services include: accommodation support, general
advice, cultural and personal suport. The pastoral care staff
members can also speak the following languages: Mandarin,
Cantonese, Hindi, Tamil, Norweign, Danish, Japanese, Swedish
and French. International staff also conduct orientation and
can provide information regarding the Ministry of Education's
Code of Practice. The International Stuent Support Office is
located in I Block and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to
4:00pm.
International Students Office
The International Student Office provides academic
assistance to prospective and current students, from
application through to enrolments the International Student
Advisors can assist you in choosing the right programme for
you, completing your application and enrolment forms as well
as help you obtain the necessary visa to study. The
international student advisors also handle refund and
withdrawal applications, provide banking information and
arrange airport pickup, health insurance and accommodation
placement. The International Office is located in I Block and
is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
Student Association - WITSA Membership
Student Association is compulsory for all Waiariki
students. WITSA is Waiariki Student Association group,
international students can enquire about being an active
Student Body Member. Student Association has been established
to meet the needs of Waiariki students and to ensure that at
Institute Policy level that student voices are being heard.
Aside from student advocacy where you can ask the WITSA
President or a staff member to support you during a grievance
procedure, WITSA also provides on campus social activities to
bring all students together. Other services they provide are:
Food banks, financial relief, photo processing, bus discount
cards and a range of student information.
Student Job Search
Enrolled at Waiariki? Looking for a part time or casual
job to supplement your living allowance? Then visit Student
Job Search, staff are available to assist you in finding
suitable employment to meet your needs. Please note only
students with permits to study and work can be employed in New
Zealand. If you would like to work, but do not have a
Variation of Condition to Work on your Student Permit then see
Ada or Kavitha in International Student Office about applying
for one. The Student Job Search Office is located in
A-Extension Block and is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to
