About The City |
|
Location of
the college
Waiariki Institute of Technology is located in Rotorua, a
provincial city of more than 60,000 people. Situated in the
central North Island, Rotorua has good transport links by road
and air to Auckland and Wellington. The closest international
airport is Hamilton. Rotorua is the country's premier tourist
destination and hosts well over 1.5 million visitors each
year. Visitors to Rotorua enjoy Maori culture, geothermal
activity, spectacular scenery and a host of adventure
activities. Rotorua is in the heart of New Zealand's main
production forestry region. |
The climate is
temperate. Temperatures: Winter - 8 to 15 degrees Celsius,
Summer - 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
At Waiariki we are proud of our cultural heritage. The
foundation of our bi-culturalism is Tangatarua, a meeting house.
The name Tangatarua when literally translated means "two
people". This signifies the joining together of the tangata
whenua, the indigenous people, and all other people whatever
their cultural origin.
Inside Tangatarua the elaborate carvings, both traditional and
contemporary, record the genealogy of both the Maori and
European cultures which form the core of the Waiariki community.
Through your programmes of study you will experience all
cultures working and studying side by side. We hope that you
will feel part of our community. A community which respects and
upholds the goals and values of all cultures.
