The Main
Restaurant
in
Belfield has two floors with different types of catering:
The McDonagh Room (Top Floor)
serves
traditional lunches (from 12 noon to 2.30 p.m.); these
include a choice of starters, five main courses and
desserts. Evening meals are served from 4.00 p.m. to 7.00
p.m. The menu includes a freshly carved joint with
vegetables and potatoes; traditional bacon, egg and
sausage; salads; hamburgers; and a variety of other dishes
including fish, chicken, curry, chili, pasta and
vegetarian specialties.
The Kevin
Barry Room (Lower Floor)
opens for breakfast at 8.00 a.m. and serves a variety of
substantial snack meals up to 4.00 p.m. From 12 noon to
2.30 p.m., soups, pasta dishes, curries, challis, pies,
hamburgers and a variety of salads are available.
Note: Students with special dietary needs are catered
for.
The
Science Restaurant
serves a
selection of croissants, rolls, confectionery, fruit,
yoghurts and beverages from 8.30 a.m. until 4.15 p.m. From
12 noon to 2.30 p.m., hot snacks are provided.
'Nine-One-One',
on the ground floor of the Library Building, sells a wide
selection of freshly baked muffins, croissants, doughnuts
and sandwiches made to order.
Finnegan's Break,
in the John Henry Newman Building, provides fresh snacks
and beverages.
The
Student Centre has Café Brava which offers hot and
cold snacks throughout the day, and The Grind where
you can have sandwiches, baguettes and wraps made to
order.
O'Brien's Irish Sandwich Bar,
located on the ground floor of the Sports Centre in
Belfield, provides fresh sandwiches made to order, snacks
and refreshments.
There
are also coffee shops/restaurants in Earlsfort Terrace,
the Veterinary College, the Graduate School of Business,
Roebuck and Richview |
Students' Union
Every student is a member of the Students' Union which
represents, and provides for, its members. The Union runs
well-stocked shops in the Library, Science and Engineering
Buildings and in Earlsfort Terrace; a second-hand
bookshop; the 'Trap' Games Room; a typing and photocopying
service; discos and gigs. The Union also offers advisory
services in education, welfare, employment and
accommodation matters as well as a counseling service. Its
newspaper, the University Observer, is a regular
publication distributed free of charge to students.
Central to a student's social life in University is the
Students' Club which runs regular events and provides a
games, bar and video service. The Student Centre, which is
paid for and run by students, is the location for the
Union offices along with retail facilities, an auditorium,
a new bar and facilities for clubs and societies. Certain
Union services, including the copying service, are located
in the corridor off the Library Tunnel.
Fresher's Week provides the opportunity to sign up for any
of the Union's activities. In addition, class
representative elections take place early in the first
term. All students are encouraged to get involved. |
