ACCOMMODATION:
Catered Residences
Traditional catered accommodation at the University of Edinburgh is provided at
Pollock Halls of Residence, their single largest student housing complex. Here,
eight separate houses accommodate a total of around 1,900 students - mostly
Freshers - in single study bedrooms.
Self-Catered
Residences
Approximately 590 (mainly Postgraduate) students are accommodated in the
University's six self-catered residences. The great majority of study-bedrooms
in self-catered residences are single, though a few twin/shared rooms remain.
Although these shared rooms are usually allocated to couples, they can also be
offered to friends who wish to share.
Self-Catered
Flats
The University of Edinburgh has over 2,700 self-catered rooms specifically
reserved for Freshers, Visiting Undergraduates and new Postgraduates, in some of
the most attractive student accommodation in Britain. Around 2,180 of these
rooms are in University flats.
Most of the flats
reserved for new students are in a mixture of modern, purpose-built developments
and older, renovated buildings, all specially designed with students in mind.
Most of their flats
accommodate three to six students, while the postgraduate flats at West Mains
Road and Kincaid's Court are more like small student residences, housing ten and
twelve students, respectively, in each flat.
