Homestay Program
The main role of the Homestay Family is to provide you with
a safe, functional, and comfortable home environment where
you feel at ease and encouraged to use your English skills.
Advantages of Homestay:
*
The chance to use English all the time
*
A greater sense of security for most students
*
Exposure to a rich variety of cultural learning
opportunities, such as family activities, holiday
celebrations, sporting events, etc.
*
Deep, lasting friendships with the family
What to expect from the Host Family:
The Homestay Families are people who are interested in
meeting and getting to know individuals from other cultures
and countries. They are people who understand the need to
provide a safe and friendly environment for students, and
who understand that for many students this will be the first
time from their own families.
The American Host families vary in size, age and ethnic
background. Although many of the host families consist of
the traditional family (mom, dad and children), it is not
uncommon for a host family to be a single parent with
children or a single person (young or older).
Within the family unit you will find that most American work
outside of the home and have a very busy lifestyle. You will
find some differences both personal and cultural between you
and the host family; however, with patience and
understanding these differences will seem minimal in a short
time after your arrival. Remember, you are choosing to study
in a new country and to learn about a different way of life
- enjoy the differences!
Bedroom
You will have your own bedroom. Each bedroom will be
equipped with a desk, bed (linens and towels), and dresser,
and will have a window.
Location & Transportation
All host families will provide you with transportation
to and from school if their home is not within the walking
distance from TSU. |
