You will
have an opportunity to meet representatives of all these
services at special orientation/information sessions organised
by Jim Wilson, the University's International Student Adviser,
at the start of each semester. Jim will give you professional
advice throughout your time at Strathclyde. This includes advice
on immigration (visas), financial, academic or personal matters.
Social Life
Jim
Wilson also promotes social life on and off campus and will put
you in touch with the many clubs, societies and national groups
which exist on campus. In addition, he runs an international
Students Club. Its activities include weekend trips to other
parts of Scotland, film and theatre nights, day tours, cultural
events and a weekly midweek meeting in a range of Glasgow pubs.
Students
Advisory and Conselling Service
The
Student Advisory and Counselling Service (SACS) offers
confidential support, advice and counselling to all UK students*
as they enter and continue through university. These services
are available to students who may have relationship. personal or
academic concerns or to those who may find themselves in a
crisis. The Service also offers group sessions in areas such as
relaxation and stress management.
Student and Occupational Health Service
The
Student and Occupational Health Service (SOHS) deals with
physical and emotional problems which may interfere with a
students academic performance. Hospital-based doctors run a
clinic on the John Anderson Campus twice daily during term and
family planning/health care clinic weekly. All students must
register with information on how to do this. Students from some
countries are required to have a TB screening test at the time
of matriculation and the SOHS will arrange this for you. The
SOHS also monitors and advises on health matters relating to
study and working environments with in the University.
SOHS on the jordanhill Campus
There
is a nurse available in the Medical Clinic in the Henry Wood
Building. It is a GTC (General Teaching Council) regulation that
all new students in teacher training must undergo a medical
examination. This is conducted by appointment on the jordanhill
Campus as near the beginning of the course as possible
