In recent years Southern Cross University has established
an impressive and growing reputation for research and
teaching in several niche areas. The Centres for Plant
Conservation Genetics and Phytochemistry are recognised
internationally, the tourism program has been repeatedly
acknowledged as one of t he country's best, and other
programs in coastal management and marine science, visual
arts, contemporary music, nursing and education are recognised for their innovativeness, scholarship, and
relevance in today's competitive world.
With major campuses now in Lismore, Coffs Harbour, and
Tweed Heads just south of the Queensland Gold Coast It
has made a significant contribution to higher education
in the own region. Increasingly though the programmes are
finding favour not just with local students, but with
those from the broader Australian community and,
increasingly, in the neighbouring countries of Southeast
Asia and the South Pacific.
Both overseas and in Australia there is a strong
correlation between studying at Southern Cross and
positive employment outcomes. Indeed, graduates from a
number of the programs, including Tourism and Nursing
regularly attain 100 per cent job placement after
graduation. Moreover, the emphasis on strong industry
links ensures that the programs have a 'real world' focus
to match the pursuit of theoretical knowledge.
Southern Cross University is at an exciting stage in its
development with record student numbers, record levels of
external research funding and a tremendous sense of
energy. The years ahead are full of promise and I
encourage you to consider joining us. Please contact the
staff by telephone, Email or fax if you would like to know
more about what it can offer you.
