Accommodation
During the course, students will
be accommodated in a university Hall of Residence situated in
a secluded, wooded ground, about fifteen minutes' walk from the
Language Centre. Students will have single study-bedrooms,
grouped around shared kitchens and other facilities.
Accommodation is self-catering and cooking facilities will be
provided. Social organisers for the courses will be in residence
and will be available to help students with any problems they
may have, as well as arranging a number of social activities.
Staying in a university Hall will give many extra opportunities
for informal English language practice.
The
University of Southampton subscribes to the code of practice of
the British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic
Purposes. This code of practice sets standards for courses in
English Language and Study Skills for speakers of other
languages, and these courses follow the principles of the code
of practice in all respects.
Private Rented Accommodation
The Accommodation Office provides a service dedicated to
introducing students to suitable vacancies in the private
rented sector. Those who wish to rent their own accommodation
should come to Southampton before the session begins to make
the necessary arrangements.
All students are invited to apply for a room in hall for any
given session but places are limited and many decide to share
a rented house in the city with friends. All parts of the
University and areas of the city where students tend to live
are linked by a comprehensive bus service.
On the following pages you will find details of all the
services offered by the Accommodation Office. More importantly
it offers essential advice, a regularly updated list of
housing vacancies and a comprehensive list of letting
agencies.
It also supply addresses of lodgings where bed and
breakfast and all meals on Sundays are normally provided.
Additionally, it offers an email subscription list for
postgraduates, Socrates and UK students returning from abroad
wishing to find flat mates to house share with.
