University traces its roots back to 1843, when Sheffield School of
Design was founded. It had a distinguished history as one of
Britain's top schools of art and design for more than a century.
In May 2005 they opened the impressive
Health and
Wellbeing Building at Collegiate Crescent Campus. The £15
million " beacon for health and social care education" was
officially opened by University Chancellor, Professor the Lord
Winston and provides world-class facilities for health and social
care students.
Plans for further
development of both campuses are already well advanced with the
University planning to replace its third campus at Psalter Lane with
a new home for the
Faculty of
Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences at City Campus.

All language classes take place in the Stoddart Building,
where there are four language laboratories and a multimedia
self-access centre. Facilities include CD-ROM interactive

packages and language workstations featuring listening and
video viewing facilities and satellite TV.
Catering
There are plenty of places to eat around City Campus; try out
the Deli in the Stoddart Building for anything from a
capuccino to a healthy dinner.
Reception and customer services
This provides a dedicated focal point to support your studies,
including liaising between students and lecturers, handling
course-related matters and providing general student
information.
Employer liaison and placements office
The experienced work placements team offer an exceptional
support service to students and employers, successfully
placing around 500 students each year across a range of
courses. The office also provides extensive services for
business. Accommodation
Home to two
universities with more than 50,000 students, plus Europe's largest
further education college and the headquarters of Learning Direct (UfI),
Sheffield is very much a learning city. It's one of the country's
most in-demand student destinations, and once they arrive students
enjoy the Sheffield experience so much that a higher proportion stay
on to live and work here than in any other city outside London.
Accommodation
Services offer a friendly free service to help you find the right
place to live in Sheffield.
The University
guarantees to offer all first year students accommodation of a
reasonable standard either in University owned, partnership or
private sector accommodation.
The university is
sensitive to the accommodation needs of individuals and provides
both single sex accommodation and accommodation that is suitable for
students with
disabilities and
special
requirements. They also cater to the needs of
mature
and
international students.
All University
Managed and Partnership residences are furnished with standard
bedroom furniture unless stated. This includes a single bed,
wardrobe, a desk or worktop and a chair. Certain bedrooms have a
washbasin.
Tenants in both
catered and self-catered residences are asked to supply their own
bed linen (duvet, duvet cover, sheet, pillow and pillowcase) and
towels. Please note: University catering facilities are not
available at weekends, so even if you are in a catered hall you will
need your own cutlery and crockery for these times.
