Seneca College offers a Housing Registry to assist
students in locating affordable housing. There are also
residences on the King Campus and Newnham Campus, just
steps away from classes. These residences are operated by
Campus Living Centres Inc.
"Residence life is great! It is everything I thought it
would be and more! There is always something to do or
somewhere to go." - 2000 student, Residence & Conference
Centres .
"It is a great building and I had a lot of fun here this
year. I look forward to coming back in the fall." - 2000
student, Residence & Conference Centres.
The ZoNe Challenge...
Each student is urged to participate in the ZoNe
Challenge. This program provides many opportunities for
students to meet one another while participating in
various events throughout the year. It's a point system
that is designed to encourage Residence spirit and
activities. The idea of the ZoNe Challenge is to reward
students for their positive behaviour towards Residence,
academics & the community.
The ZoNe Challenge is divided into three competitions: One
at the beginning of September through the end of
September, the second from October to the end of December,
and the third from January to the end of March with
rewards given out at the end of each competition. The ZoNe
that wins are afforded the chance to divide the prizes
amongst themselves, or use it in anyway they agree upon.
This gives the students a reason to perform in their
community at the Residence, academic and community level.
Resident Life Advisors...
For the 2003/2004 year, the Seneca Residence & Conference
Centre at the Newnham Campus will have 12 returning
students take the positions of Resident Life Advisor's (R.L.A.s).
They will be available to students when they need them and
R.L.A.s together with the Residence Life Coordinator, plan
and co-ordinate the Residence Life Program for the year.
Resident Life Advisors are provided with a week long
training course prior to the start of the school year.
Priority is given to the topics such as sensitivity to
harrassment and racism prevention, time management,
conflict resolution, team building exercises, legal
understandings (i.e. role as an R.L.A. and
professionalism) and more.
Social Activities...
The Residence Life Coordinator has put together a Social
Orientation Staff (SOS) and are planning a fun filled week
of orientation and fun for the first week in September!
The RLC will also be recruiting students who are
interested in a representative position on the social
committee, which will run all year. Nominees will be
elected by their floor during the first few weeks of
September. Events and activities planned in previous years
have included semi-formals, toy/food drives, charity
auctions, talent shows, sports challenges, etc.
Learning Activities...
For the learning side of the activities, the Residence
through the Residence Life Coordinator and the school,
arrange programming workshops (i.e. stress management,
study tips, and many other workshops). The school
departments and local community offices put these
programming sessions on for the students, in the hopes
that it will provide the students with some additional
help and information that they may otherwise feel
uncomfortable asking for.
