admissions criteria
  • General admissions criteria
  • Admissions criteria for undergraduate study
  • Admissions criteria for postgraduate study

GENERAL ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
You will need to be over 18 years of age to enter Higher Education in the UK. Please note that international students cannot apply for part-time courses unless they are the dependant of a current full-time student, the dependant of someone who has a current UK work permit or the dependant of a UK citizen.

Some of the courses are only offered to practising UK professionals. These courses are not appropriate for international students. If you are unsure whether you can apply for a specific course as an International student, please contact the International Recruitment Office.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDY
Each course at the University will have its own entry requirements.  As a guide, for degree level study, applicants will need to have the equivalent of:

  • 2 or 3 good 'A' Levels (GCE Advanced Level)
  • or a recognised Access/Foundation course
  • or an International Baccalaureate (minimum score 24)
  • or an EDEXCEL (BTEC) National Certificate or Diploma (Merit profile)
  • or High School Leaving Certificate, where it is deemed equivalent to 'A' Level Standard

Some courses will require higher entrance criteria, especially those courses that are recognised by professional bodies. If the university is unable to offer you your chosen course, it will make every effort to offer you a course it feels you will be able to benefit from. In some cases this may be the foundation level or HND.

Applications are welcome from students with advanced standing for direct entry to the programmes. Students should forward copies of their transcripts with their application forms, so that an assessment can be made with regard to recognition of previous study.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDY
As a guide, for masters level applications, students will need to have a good degree pass in a relevant discipline or equivalent, or have had relevant work experience in the appropriate field. Every application is considered individually and many factors such as maturity, motivation and work experience are considered in support of your application.

Some of the Masters level courses in the Faculty of Technology require students to complete a large industrially-based project and dissertation which can be done in the student's own country.

UNDERGRADUATE
You can apply for admission as follows:
  • You can obtain a Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) application form from your local British Council office or direct from UCAS. If you are considering applying to more than one university, you should apply through UCAS.
