Living Accommodations
PLU strives to offer living accommodations that are affordable, comfortable, and
safe. All residence halls have kitchens, television rooms, and laundry
facilities. Most halls are co-ed by floor, have two students in each room, and
house all ages of single students. Harstad Hall is all female, Kreidler Hall is
reserved for older and graduate students, and South Hall is apartment style
living for juniors, seniors, and married couples. Internet hookup is available
in each residence hall. Telephones are provided in each room with automated
answer/messaging capabilities. PLU also offers four different dining options
with one dining hall, two coffee shops, and a pizza parlor (The Bistro).
Students with dietary restrictions are accommodated.
As a single, full-time student, you are provided housing on campus for four
years. PLU believes the residence hall experience is so valuable that all
students live on campus until they are 20 years old, are a junior, or living
with a relative, guardian, or host family. Exceptions are occasionally granted
on the basis of cultural, religious, or dietary preferences. A number of
apartment complexes and houses are located in the area surrounding the campus
for students who elect and are qualified to live off campus.
Living On Campus
At PLU, we don't call the living facilities "dorms." Dorms are a place to stash
gear, study and sleep. Residence halls are much more. PLU provides quality
on-campus living and learning environments that encourage and enhance the
participation and enjoyment of your college experience. Students are not only
supported in class, but also where they make a home.
PLU freshmen are guaranteed housing and roommates are matched by people-not
computers. Do you get up early or stay up late? What kind of music do you like?
Are you going to participate in sports? Do you like things to be kept neat?
These are some of the questions you'll answer so we can find the best roommate
for you.
PLU does not have a Greek system. This is a big advantage in creating a fun,
inclusive community. A residence hall experience provides a foundation for
building life-long friendships and opportunities for numerous social activities.
Living Off Campus
In addition to the residence halls, students may also elect to live off campus.
Students living off campus must have junior status or be living with their
parents/guardian. Surrounding the university are several privately owned
rentals, all within walking distance of the campus. Students living in the south
Puget Sound can easily commute to PLU.
In either case, off-campus students have access to all of the same services
as students living on-campus, and are encouraged to participate fully in campus
life.
