Future Developments
This is an exciting time for Newcastle University,
having recently experienced a period o f
change through
restructuring; there are ambitious ideas and strategies for
the future. With this in mind the college has created a five-year
business plan that clearly sets out our aims and
objectives.
In addition to these ambitious targets, our on going
development and investment programme to the University's
infrastructure is well under way. Massive capital
investment has been made into flagship schemes including: |
A partnership led by the
University, has been established between a wide range of local
bodies to develop a Cultural Quarter on campus.
The £11m Paul O'Gorman Building, will the base for the new
Northern Institute of Cancer Research and provide world-class
facilities for cancer drug discovery and application.
Work is well under way on the £19.1m Devonshire Building, home
to the Institute for Research on Environment and
Sustainability and the Regional e-Science Research Centre.
Prepared by Sir Terry Farrell, a Masterplan for future campus
development is currently being implemented. A Newcastle
University graduate, Farrell has enjoyed international
recognition as both architect and urban designer.
The creation of a Research Beehive and Postgraduate Centre
with an investment of £2.2m providing, meeting rooms, library
and social facilities where staff and postgraduate students
can exchange ideas and develop exciting new research concepts.
A £1.7m investment into a new Centre for Biogerontology
continues our growth of ageing research, combining
biogenerontology, geriatrics, and neurosciences to form a
unique centre, the largest in the UK.
The new £8.3m Henry Wellcome Building for the Medical School.
