Student services
At The Meridian International School, the
Student Services staff are committed to making
each student's experience in the college and
Australia as successful and enjoyable as
possible. Services for students include:
Social Activities Club
Students at The Meridian International
School can participate in the weekly social and
sports program, which is designed to introduce
students to their new surroundings and cultural
life.
One-day and two-day excursions are offered on
weekends for the enjoyment of everyone, giving
students the opportunity to practice their
English and to make friends with Australians and
other students from all around the world.
Students are also given assistance with plans
and bookings if they wish to travel in Australia
at the end of their course.
Students Under 18 Special Care
Parents of students under 18 must nominate a
responsible adult to be guardian for their
son/daughter. If parents do not wish to appoint
their own guardian the college will provide, at
additional cost, the services of a Student
Supervisor. Details are available on request.
All students under the age of 18 have regular
interviews with the student care counselling
staff and the academic counsellors to ensure
that all their personal and study needs are
being met. Reports on their progress are sent to
the students' guardians or parents.
Opportunities to Work
As students come to Australia to study and
achieve their educational goals, employment is
seen by many as a means of providing additional
income to support themselves during the long
periods they are away from home. Students also
like to work as it provides an opportunity to
practice their English and meet Australians.
Students on a student visa are able to work 20
hours per week, with full-time work permissible
during holiday periods. There are no work rights
for students studying on tourist visas.
Reliable Airport Transfer Service
The most convenient and secure way for you
to be welcomed to Australia and escorted to your
accommodation. Students going into homestay
accommodation are met and introduced to the host
family.
Academic Counselling and Placement Service
Trained academic counsellors provide
students with advice on all the courses
available for them to achieve their study goals.
Free assistance is given with arranging
interviews and enrolment into high schools,
colleges and universities. Regular talks from
universities and colleges are held at The
Meridian International School to provide
students with information about study options.
All students will benefit from the close links
with Australia's leading universities and
vocational colleges.
Students studying in the Senior Secondary
School, Academic English and the University
Foundation Program have regular interviews with
the academic counsellor and their course
coordinators to ensure that their study
requirements are being met.
Student Care Counselling Service
Student services staff are available to
assist students with any personal difficulties
or problems they may experience while studying
in Australia. Assistance is available for
accommodation problems, visa renewals, medical
appointments, homesickness, tax file number
applications and any other problems students
require help with.
Emergency Assistance
All students carry a student identification
card with their address and the 24-hour
emergency phone number to provide them with the
security of knowing that they can get assistance
from the counselling staff at any time.
First Aid Officers
The Meridian International School has
Certified First Aid Officers on campus who will
assist with emergency first aid for students if
required. For cases requiring further medical
attention, students will be directed to the care
of a qualified medical practitioner. Students on
student visas are issued a medical card by the
government health service after arrival.

compulsory for all student visa holders -please
see the fee schedule for more information.
