JCU Campuses and Study Centres
JCU's main campuses are located in the
northern Queensland cities of Townsville and
Cairns. Smaller campuses and study centres are
located in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and
Singapore.
TOWNSVILLE
Townsville is a thriving coastal city and port
with a population of around 140,000, making it
Australia's largest tropical city. Situated in
the dry tropics, most days are sunny, with an
average daytime temperature of 25o(77°F) - 30°C
(86°F) for autumn, winter and spring (when most
of the teaching year falls). Townsville is a
stepping off point for visiting the Great
Barrier Reef, 2 hours away, and is only one hour
from the Wet Tropics rainforests of Paluma, and
a gateway to historic outback towns such as
Charters Towers. The resort regions of Mission
Beach and the Whitsunday islands are also within
easy reach. Picturesque Magnetic Island is a
20-minute ferry ride away.

Around 9,000 students study on the
Townsville campus, including 950 international students.
It is located in the suburb of Douglas in a 386-hectare
setting of natural bush and parkland, 13 kilometres (8
miles) from the city centre. JCU's College of Music,
Visual Arts andTheatre (COMVAT) is located at the nearby
Vincent campus, and the two are connected by a regular,
free shuttle bus service.
The Douglas campus includes the main JCU library,
restaurants, cafes, bars, fitness and sporting facilities,
a professional theatre, and a wealth of student clubs and
societies so that students can enjoy an active campus
life. Over 1,300 students live on campus in colleges and
halls of residence, giving the campus a true community
atmosphere. Supermarkets and specialty shops are found at
nearby shopping centres.
