Founded in 1998, the Institute for System Level Integration is the world's first centre of excellence to concentrate on postgraduate education and research in the methodology and applications of system-on-chip design, system level integration and related technologies.

The Institute is a unique academic collaborative venture of four of the UK's leading universities: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, and Strathclyde, and with links to Lancaster University. ISLI draws on the academic expertise of the university departments of computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and informatics.

The objective of the Institute's activities is to produce highly skilled design engineers and researchers to meet the needs of the rapidly changing global semiconductor industry.

Industrial collaboration critical to the Institute's success is a key element for all ISLI's teaching and research. Excellent links with industry ensure that the Institute has access to the latest pre-release SoC design tools, state of the art facilities via industrial collaboration, and dedicated information systems.

The Institute is located in the Alba Centre on the Alba Campus in Livingston, Scotland.

Funding for ISLI is underpinned by a financial commitment from Scottish Enterprise, Scotland's economic development agency.

Hospitality & Conference

The Institute's Stewart Miller Conference Centre is self-contained within the Institute's purpose-built facilities on the Alba Campus and is available for bookings for conferences, exhibitions, receptions and meetings. It is ideally suited to small and medium groups, ranging from 10 to 100 delegates. Very conveniently located for the M8, the Centre is easily accessible from Edinburgh and Glasgow and offers ample onsite parking.

Facilities comprise:

• Almond lecture theatre: 100 tiered seats, state-of-the-art AV system

• Leith & Linhouse meeting rooms: Each room provides seating for up to 14

• Ante-room: Space for registration and informal breaks 

In addition to the 100-seat lecture theatre, the conference centre has two meeting rooms which may be reconfigured to form a larger suite accommodating up to 30 people. Our meeting rooms benefit from natural light and pleasant external surroundings and, to date, have provided secluded and peaceful accommodation for board meetings, team building sessions, training courses and seminars.

Facilities are available for hire at competitive rates and ISLI offer a high degree of flexibility in the booking periods ISLI accommodate. The lecture theatre and individual rooms may be booked on an hourly, half-day or full-day basis and ISLI can also meet any requirements for bookings which extend into the evening. As a small organisation, ISLI provide an efficient one-stop shop service for all aspects of facilities hire and event organisation.
