Foundation & English Language Programmes

If you do not immediately fulfil the entry requirements (such as language, or if you have less than thirteen years of education) for a three year degree programme, you will normally be considered for alternatives such as:

  • Four year extended degree programmes such as in combined studies; computer systems with software engineering, or computer networking; mechanical, manufacturing systems engineering, industrial automation or mechatronics; electronic, electrical, or electrical and electronic engineering; civil engineering; environmental science geography and GIS

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) Programmes where you have IELTS of 6.0

  • International Foundation Programmes, where you have IELTS of 4.5

You may be offered the International Foundation Programmes if you have IELTS of between 4.5 and 6 (you will take classes to achieve a IELTS of 6, as well as studying academic subjects) or if you already have an IELTS of 6 but you need to study academic subjects to prepare you for the degree programmes.

There is also the International Foundation Programme (Advanced) for degree holders who wish to prepare themselves for study at postgraduate level as well as achieving the equivalent of IELTS of 6.5

If you have IELTS of 5 or 5.5 or 6, you may need to follow an eight week, four week or two week Summer pre-sessional English course on campus.
