When to Apply:
Most programs begin in September or January. There are also a number of
programs beginning in May. Many programs fill quickly, so George Brown
recommend the applicant apply by February 1 for September programs and at
least six months in advance for other start dates. However, applications
received closer to the start date will be considered if there is space
available in the program.
Steps to Apply:
If you are outside Canada:
Step 1 Obtain and complete the
International Student Application Form.
Step 2 Submit the Application Form to the George Brown College
International Centre with the $65 application fee and Supporting Documents*
Step 3 Letter of Acceptance issued
Step 4 Apply for a Study Permit (Visa)
Step 5 Sign and return your Program Confirmation Form
Step 6 Register for your program
If you are in Canada:
Step 1A Obtain and complete the
International Student Application Form.
Step 2A Submit the Application Form to the GBC International Centre
with the $65 fee and Supporting Documents* OR
Step 1B Obtain and complete the OCAS Application Form
through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS),
or
from your School Guidance office
Step 2B Submit the Application Form, $65 fee and Supporting Documents*
to OCAS
Step 3 Letter of Acceptance issued
Step 4 Check the validity of your Study Permit (Visa)
Step 5 Sign and return your Program Confirmation Form
Step 6 Register for your program
* Supporting
documents required for post-secondary programs:

Translated and notarized transcripts of senior
secondary school and/or other level of post-secondary education completed.

Translated and notarized secondary school diploma
and/or diploma(s) from other level of education.

Proof of English proficiency such as TOEFL,
IELTS, etc.

Portfolios and/or interview for some programs,
such as Graphic Design, Fashion Design, and Early Childhood Education.
Study
Permits/Temporary Resident Visa
If you want to study in Canada
for more than 6 months you must apply for a Study Permit and/or a Temporary
Resident Visa. A Study Permit allows you to come to Canada to take:
A Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor Visa) - not a
study permit - is sufficient if you want to study for 6 months or less.
Study Permits are not issued from within Canada.
You must apply to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) which is located in
your nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
Official information on requirements should be
obtained from a CIC office in Canada, a Canadian Embassy or consulate overseas
or from the CIC.
Homestay
If you require Homestay Accommodation (with optional Airport Pick-up),
please make sure that GBC receive your completed Homestay Application Form at
least two weeks before your arrival date.
Health Insurance
Health insurance is mandatory for all international students. You will be
automatically enrolled in the college insurance program and charged. The cost
is CAD $637 per year for post-secondary students and CAD $110 per 8 week
session for Intensive English Program Students.
