Study in France

THE COUNTRY :

The French Republic as it is officially known is famous as the fashion capital of the world. It is also one of the finest and cleanest countries of the world. The people here are predominantly French but one can find people of different faiths here. The capital of France is Paris. It has 92% French, 3% North African, 2% German, 1% Breton, 2% other (including Provencal, Catalan & Basque).


GEOGRAPHY & CLIMATE :

Overall France has one of the most temperate climate in the world. But owing to the size of the country and the different attitudes, climate can vary considerably from one region to another. Mountain areas throughout France have heavy snows in winter and mild summers. But along the Mediterranean the winters are mild and hot summers. France is the largest West European nation, Occasional strong, cold, dry, north-to-northwesterly wind know as mistral.


CURRENCY :

The official currency of France is Euro.


EDUCATION :

Higher education in France is imparted through three main categories of institutions with varying objectives, structures and admission requirements. The three categories are Universities, Grandes Ecoles, Specialized Institutes.


MAJOR CITIES :

Paris, Bordeaux, Nice, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Cannes, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes.


CULTURE :

The French culture is very liberal. The State has recognized the high level of interest in music in France and has encouraged and supported music of all sorts, from the baroque music of Louis XIV's reign to rock and rap, via jazz and acoustic music. Photography is the most popular pastime in France. Next comes making movies, whether film or video (21%), drawing and singing in choirs (13% each), playing the piano and dancing (11% each), writing a diary and painting (10% each), playing a musical instrument other than the piano (10%), the guitar (8%) or the recorder (6%), drama and writing poetry (8% each), crafts (7%), writing articles and researching archives (5% each), sculpture and archaeological digs (2%).
