Flinders University
    International Accommodation

There is no better way to be a part of university life than to live on the university grounds.

Flinders is the only South Australian university with on-campus accommodation in the Adelaide metropolitan area, and you have two options:

  • University Hall (catered)

  • Deirdre Jordan Village (self-catered)

Both offer high quality facilities and the chance to have some serious fun.

If you'd prefer to live off campus, Flinders Housing can help there too. It runs a free, up-to-date Accommodation Service to show you what's available on the rental market and provide advice on your rights and responsibilities.

If you're about to come to Adelaide to commence your studies, you may also want to make use of the Temporary Accommodation Information.

The International Student Services Unit at Flinders has additional accommodation information for International Students.

University Hall

Entering University for the first time can be daunting. University Hall provides a safe, supportive and friendly multi-cultural community that is rich in academic and personal support. Its position on campus means that it is convenient to the full range of University academic, sporting and social activities. The Hall accommodates 232 students, each with their own fully furnished bed/study room complete with a direct dial telephone and data line for Internet access for those with their own computers.

The cost of accommodation for 2006 is $200.00 per week (usually payable in a lump sum at the beginning of each term). This cost includes fifteen meals per week provided by a professional catering firm and all electricity and water costs. Late meals and some special diets can be catered for. Communal kitchenettes are available where residents may prepare snacks and weekend meals. Unisex bathrooms are shared with several other residents. There are also a number of in-house tutors who are available for help with a range of issues of either academic or personal nature.

The Hall is well equipped with common areas that include the communal dining room, the television and common room, the attractively furnished 'Abbey' lounge and the versatile Ballroom. In addition there is a communal computer laboratory, a small library, a music room, an art room and a tennis/basketball court. Student BBQs and social functions are also held in the grassed central courtyard that also boasts an outdoor cinema screen, the unit gardens and under the modern gazebos. Parking is available in a secured car park located next to the Hall. A regular bus service takes residents to the local shopping precinct, the beach and to Adelaide's CBD.

All residents are provided with a copy of the Flinders University Hall Handbook on arrival. This handbook forms part of a resident's residential contract and outlines the Rules & Conditions Governing Residency in greater detail than in the contract. Residents should refer to the Handbook for all policies and guidelines concerning University Hall. It will be assumed that all of the information contained in the Handbook is known and understood by all Members of the Hall. Prospective residents are encouraged to read through the Handbook prior to applying for a place in the Hall.

Deirdre Jordan Village

Adjacent to the Hall and overlooking the attractive Adelaide cityscape is the self-catered Deirdre Jordan Village. The Village complex provides students with safe, secure and affordable self-catered accommodation with the convenience of on-campus living. The first 2- and 3-bedroom townhouses were built in 1985, with subsequent stages being built throughout the following 18 years, culminating in 2003 with the construction of 40 new units in five-bedroom state of the art apartments, creating a self-catered Village complex of 311 beds on campus.

The cost of accommodation for 2006 is $130.00 per week for a Village Unit and $116.00 per week for a Village Townhouse, which includes all utilities.

Each of the units contains a common living/dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom & toilet facilities, secure storage space for each resident, very generous desks, study chairs and a single bed in bedrooms as well as individual telephones and data connections. All new units have airconditioning in the common areas. Five units are equipped with disabled access facilties. The upper level units each have a balcony with a view while the lower level units have a shaded outdoor patio area.
