Library Policy
1. The Library and its services should be accessible to all.
2. All users have a right to know what services are available and how access to those services can be supported
3. The Library will endeavour to implement changes necessary to support these two aims.

Information and Assistance
The Librarian responsible for disabilities is Helen Muirden (during the absence of our Special Facilities Librarian, Linda Barker). Helen will be pleased to give information and advice on specific library issues. She can also, by arrangement, help with practical tasks, such as book location and photocopying.
The Library also has a disabilities working party with the following people on it:
Caroline Gale, Lower Floor
Jim Jackson, Law Library
Stuart Macwilliam, Upper Floor, Main Library,
Helen Muirden, Main Floor, Main Library
Clare Nolan, Bindery, Main Library
Lee Snook, Upper Floor, Main Library[Departmental Safety Officer & First Aider]
Ian Tilsed, Systems Office, Main Library, [First Aider]

The Building
Users with mobility problems may need assistance with the main Library entrance doors. You may ring any of the above numbers before you set off and arrangements will be made to meet you on arrival. Inside the Library on the entrance level, there is a lift near the current journals section, which serves all floors.
I
Fire
It advise readers with mobility or sensory problems to make themselves known to the porter at the entrance to the Main Library Building and when they leave - your name will be entered on the 'in-building' list and crossed off when you leave. This enables us to inform the Fire Brigade of your presence in the building in the case of an emergency.
If there is a fire alarm, the lifts are NOT to be used.

Toilets
You will find specially adapted toilets on the main floor, opposite the Issue Desk.

Individual Requirements
So that it can provide the most appropriate assistance to users with disabilities, please let us know as soon as possible after you arrive at the University of any problems you may encounter, or anticipate, in using the Main Library. Tutors of students with disabilities are especially asked to let us know of any special requirements in individual cases.
If you would like to discuss these or any other aspect of Library Service provision for users with disabilities, please contact Linda Barker or any of the disabilities working party members listed above.
