INTRODUCTION
TO ADMISSIONS
The University of Derby wishes to offer opportunities to
anyone able to benefit from its programmes of study. The
students are of all ages and backgrounds, and it welcomes
equally, young people from school or college as well as
mature students applying directly to us with no recent
educational background.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS UNDERGRADUATE
For entry to HND programmes (minimum entry requirements)
In order to enter the first year of the programme you
should possess at least one of the following:
1 A Level plus supporting passes in 3 GCSE subjects at
grade C or above (or equivalent O Levels or CSE grades).
Evidence of aptitude in Mathematics and English will also
be required.
Scottish Highers or Irish Leaving Certificate Higher
Level.
International Baccalaureat or equivalent European or
International qualifications (for equivalences please go
to International Office home page).
1 Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education or Advanced
GNVQ.
BTEC National award including ONC, OND or one or more BTEC
Certificates of Achievement in relevant subjects at
appropriate levels.
SVQ or NVQ Level 3 are considered for certain programmes.

Kitemarked Access to HE Certificate.
Other qualifications, including Open College Network
credits, broadly equivalent to the above.
Mature applicants without recent qualifications but who
can demonstrate relevant experience through employment,
parenting, membership of societies, etc.
For entry to Degree programmes (minimum entry
requirements)
In order to enter the first year of the programme you
should possess at least one of the following:

POSTGRADUATE TAUGHT DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Applicants will normally be expected to have an
appropriate first degree or equivalent qualification, or a
professional qualification of equal standing or a
substantive portfolio of work at an appropriate level.
POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Applicants for Mphil/PhD programme are normally expected
to have a first or second class honours degree or a
Masters degree from a UK University or qualification
regarded by the University as equivalent.
