University of Derby

International Accommodation

Most halls are located within 15 minutes walk of the Kedleston Road campus and the city centre.

In most cases, University accommodation is available for international students throughout their course. The self-catering Halls of Residence are modern, centrally heated and secure. A place in hall is a good way to make lots of friends in a close community atmosphere, but where you can still preserve your privacy.

New for 2005/6

- Free travel on the Unibus service linking you from halls to teaching campuses for up to maximum 25 single journeys

- Prior to your arrival, you can order at a special price of £15.00 an individual basic starter kit for plates, bowl, mug, knife, fork and spoon set, plus shared frying pan, 2 saucepans, spatula and preparation knife. This must be booked and paid for in advance.

- The university advises all new students that DSRL are reviewing the introduction of no smoking policy throughout their accommodation from September 2005.

Most bedrooms are single-study rooms, grouped in flats of between four and six, where you share kitchen and bathroom facilities with your flatmates. Some rooms have ensuite bathroom facilities for an extra charge. In addition, rooms have the facility to connect telephone, Internet and cable TV services.

Should you prefer accommodation in the private sector the Private Housing team will be pleased to help you find a suitable house or flat that has been certified under the University’s scheme. All students automatically receive information on the options available once they have accepted an offer of a place at Derby and staff will help you each step along the way.
