Residence Life
Life in a residence hall can be both fun and challenging,
but at AU, it works hard to make it a rewarding experience
as well.
At the start, freshmen live together in their own halls,
and often make friendships there that last a lifetime. The
staff of full-time Resident Directors (RDs) and
undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) help ease the
transition to college life, promoting community and
personal growth through special activities. RAs live on
each floor, and are always available for a late night chat
or whatever anyone needs.
All students are required to live on campus for the first
two years. All of the residence halls are co-ed. Some of
the halls alternate female/male by floors, while others
alternate by room.
Living arrangements range from traditional, corridor-style
residence halls to suites and apartments for small groups
of residents. Single rooms are available to both new and
upper-class students on a limited basis. Common Interest
Housing (CIH)-special housing based on student
interests--is also available to upper-class students. The
current groups are: Physical Fitness, Study Habits, Movie
Lovers, Substance Free, Athletes, Literature, Tae-bo,
Engineering, Poder Latino, Outdoor Enthusiasts and
Community Service. There are also four special interest
houses (Hillel, Environmental Studies, Honors, and the
Language House) in which students may live.
Like it quiet? Visitation is open, but for those residents
who wish to have a more private living arrangement, it do
offer some limited visitation options. First year students
may also select the quiet study option. This is a highly
requested option and is available on a first-come,
first-served basis.
It looks forward to working with you as a new member of the
Alfred University community.
