University of Sunderland is a dynamic, modern university with high
standards of teaching and research and a growing reputation as the university
for enterprise, employment and opportunity. Their ambitious city is a great
place to live and work - right at the heart of the buzzing North East of
England. Sunderland has been an important centre for
education since 674 AD, when Benedict Biscop built St Peter's Church and
monastery.
Sunderland is a breath of fresh air, with a stunning coastline and breathtaking
countryside nearby as well as all the nightlife, leisure and cultural
opportunities you'd expect from a major city. Sunderland has an international
outlook and students from across the globe choose to study with us - either on
campus or on their accredited programmes in partner institutions.
Campus Facilities
The University of
Sunderland is based on two main sites and is well equipped with modern learning
and leisure facilities.
On the north bank of the River Wear, the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter's is
at the heart of the university's development plans. Sunderland Business School,
the impressive David Goldman Informatics Centre, and the brand new Media Centre
are all based at this riverside location. A total investment of over £50m
provides some of the best learning and support facilities in the country.
At the University's City Campus they are making a multi-million pound investment
to create a 'one stop shop' for student services and information that will help
students get the most out of student life. Other state-of-the-art facilities
include the impressive Murray Library and the science complex, a modern range of
laboratories for students undertaking science programmes.
Library and
learning resource facilities
The University offers first-class library and learning resource facilities.
In addition to three comprehensive Libraries and three exceptional Learning
Resource Centres, the University has an extensive electronic library collection
which means that students can access much of the information they need on-line.
The library service is accessible and convenient. Both the Murray Library at the
City Campus and the Library at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus are open 24 hours a day,
seven days a week during core term time and the Ashburne library is accessible
58 hours a week. All are staffed by experts who help visitors find the
information they need, in addition the libraries provide access to computers,
printing, photocopying, and inter-library loans.
