1. Clubhouse by the Park

The SMU Student Activity Centre, known as the “Clubhouse by the Park” is open to members of the SMU Students’ Association (SA) who are full-time matriculated students. Those using the Clubhouse should produce their student identification card without demand. All guests must be accompanied at all times by a student.

Operating Hours

Mondays to Fridays: 8.30 am to 10.30 pm

Security Officers (SOs) are empowered to check on the rooms and activities in the Clubhouse and will be responsible for opening and closing the main door of the Clubhouse. SOs are also empowered to evict students who breach the rules. The Officers from the Office of Student Life (OSL) are also empowered to enter and inspect the Clubhouse at any time without notice.

The Students’ Association Executive Committee (SA EXCO) and the SMU Sports Association (SAS) will be operating from the Clubhouse.

Students or CCA Clubs that intend to make use of the rooms or facilities at the Clubhouse can book through the SA EXCO at least a week in advance.

The booking of tables, chairs and meeting rooms must be made with the SA’s duty personnel stationed at the Clubhouse on weekdays from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The tables and chairs are found at the Clubhouse and must be returned after use.

2. Student Lounge at Raffles Building - Red Door Gallery

The newly refurbished Student Lounge is well furnished and has two pool tables. It is open to all full-time matriculated students for the purpose of recreation and social interaction. All guests must be accompanied at all times by a student. The Student Lounge was officially opened in August 2003.

Rules and Regulations

  1. Students are required to produce their matriculation cards when called upon to do so by staff or security officers.
  2. The University and its faculty/staff shall not be liable for valuables lost or stolen at the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge.
  3. Smoking is strictly prohibited in the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge.
  4. Playing pranks, ragging and rowdy games in any form are prohibited. No profane or boisterous language is permitted
  5. Consumption of alcohol and/or drugs is strictly prohibited. Anyone found to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will not be permitted into the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge.
  6. Gambling of any form is strictly prohibited in the Cluhhouse and the Student Lounge.
  7. At all times, students are required to take care of the facilities/equipment. Any damage should be reported to the OSL immediately. If the damage is not the result of wear and tear, students responsible for its damage(s) will be liable to bear the cost for the repair and replacement.
  8. No overnight stay is allowed.
  9. Students shall not create or permit their guests or visitors to create any disturbance or other nuisance at the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge that will interfere with the well being of others.
  10. Duplication of keys is prohibited and unauthorized entry is a serious offence. Trespassers will be seriously dealt with.
  11. No littering or burning of waste material shall be allowed at any time within the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge.
  12. Students are not allowed to bring pornographic or any distasteful materials into the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge nor display anywhere within the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge.
  13. Students are responsible for the care of the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge. No student may paint, put nails or screws, make holes in, or otherwise alter or damage the Clubhouse and the Student Lounge’s facilities. Students caught violating this rule will be subject to appropriate charges and disciplinary action, where deemed appropriate by the Director, Office of Student Life.

Eligibility

  1. Only students of the SMU are eligible to book the sports facilities at the Bukit Timah Campus, which are available on Wednesdays from 12 noon to 6.00 pm.
  2. Students using the sports facilities must produce their identification cards without demand.
  3. Bookings for other days (besides Wednesdays) may be done through the OSL. However, these bookings must be done two weeks in advance. There is no guarantee that the bookings can be confirmed as the Co-Curricular Activities Branch (CCAB) may use the facilities.
  4. Bookings after 6.00 pm must be done in person at the Singapore Sports Council (SSC)’s Booking Office. Students are to show their identification cards to enjoy concessionary rates for sports facilities booked.

 

Booking Procedures

  1. The booking of facilities shall be made in accordance with such arrangements and under such conditions as the Office of Student Life (OSL) may introduce or impose from time to time.
    Bookings may be made on any working day of the week from 9.00am to 5.00pm at the Office of Student Life (OSL).
  2. In case of bad weather or bookings cancelled by the OSL due to unforeseen circumstances, a replacement booking will be given. However, the replacement booking must be made within one week.
  3. Students who book the sports facilities must be present to use them, failing which, they may be barred from future bookings for a minimum period of one month or such period deemed appropriate by the OSL.
  4. Students who fail to turn up after a grace period of 15 minutes to use the facilities booked may have to forfeit the booking.
  5. Students are allowed to make only one booking for one sports facility over a period of 7 days.
  6. The OSL reserves the right to refuse or cancel any bookings without giving any reasons.
