Queen Margaret University

About:
Since its inception in 1875, Queen Margaret University has made a crucial and distinctive contribution to the country's tertiary and higher education, by focusing its expertise on issues of pressing social need and by engaging directly with the community, while also demonstrating its agility in adapting to the rapidly changing agenda for research-led higher education.

Today, QMU is gearing up to play a key role in Scotland's world class higher education sector. It aims to be the low-volume, high-quality university of first choice for talented individuals seeking an education and research experience in health and related studies, culture or enterprise, within an institution that is distinguished by its collaborative and innovative approach to research and teaching and close involvement with the local community.

Location
Edinburgh - the perfect place to study
Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, is amongst one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. It blends impressive architecture and a rich history and culture with a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere.

For students, Edinburgh has lots to offer; libraries, galleries, museums, cinemas, shops, clubs, pubs, restaurants, concert venues, theatres, a wide range of sports facilities and great transport links.

Cultural fusion

Throughout the year, Edinburgh comes alive with various cultural festivals. In the summer, The Edinburgh International Festival brings music, dance, opera and theatre to the city, while the Festival Fringe offers every conceivable art form, including street theatre and performances in all manner of venues.

Fringe Sunday is a great chance to catch free shows and previews. There's also the Film Festival, Jazz Festival, Military Tattoo, Book Festival, and much, much more.

The Science and Folk Festivals take place in spring and thousands of people come to Edinburgh from all over the world to be part of the world's largest party - Hogmanay - which helps to celebrate the beginning of the New Year.

Mission Statement

To enhance the quality of life and serve communities, through excellence and leadership in vocationally and professionally relevant education, research and consultancy, as a university which is outward looking and committed to innovation, participation and lifelong learning.
Student Accommodation
The Student Accommodation Service provides a friendly and caring environment. We provide a range of residential accommodation at competitive prices which foster a suitable environment within which to study.

The new QMU campus, which opened in October 2007 houses around 800 brand new single study en-suite bedrooms in self contained flats for three to six students. Each flat has a kitchen and comfortable living area.
Each room is equipped with an en-suite shower and toilet, IT connections and much, much more. Although the rooms are self catered catering packages are available.

As part of the plans to encourage environmental sustainability, parking is not available for students staying in on-campus accommodation. There are, however, numerous bus and train links from the campus to Edinburgh City and the surrounding area.

It is very important that potential students apply as early as possible for a room in our halls as demand is traditionally very high.

Accommodation in halls is allocated fairly, according to established criteria which includes date of application, year of study, age and geographical distance from the University.

QMU is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment that is easily accessible for students with disabilities. If you have a disability of any kind and are thinking of applying to live in the halls, it is essential that the Accommodation Office is made fully aware in plenty of time of anything that may be required to ensure that your room is accessible or equipped as necessary for your stay.
