General Advice on Fees and Additional Funding
Before you apply for your
chosen course, find out about the funding arrangements for that course and for
your particular circumstances. The type of funding available
will depend upon the qualifications you will be working towards, whether you
will be studying on a full-time or part-time basis and your own personal circumstances.
The type and level of assistance are subject to regular change.
Even if you think you may
not receive additional funding assistance, HNC and HND students must still apply
to have their fees paid.
In the first instance contact
the Student Funding Section located within Student Services who will advice
you of all relevant funding opportunities and answer any general queries about
student finance. It is vitally important that you find out about your funding
as early as possible.
Tuition Fee Information
Most full-time students
will not have to pay fees. You will be given advice during enrolment about whether
or not you need to pay.
*All
tuition fees for full-time and part-time courses are payable on enrolment and
can be made in cash, cheque or by debit/credit card. Payment can also be made
in 4 equal monthly instalments, by standing
order, but only if the course fee is £150
or more.
Full-time Students on Non
Advanced Courses (NC, Access, GSVQ, Highers etc.)
Most full-time students
will not have to pay fees. You will be given advice during enrolment about whether
or not you need to pay.
Full-time Students on Advanced
Courses (HNC/D)
Most full-time students
will not have to pay fees. You will be given advice during enrolment about whether
or not you need to pay.
Students following HNC/D
courses may be eligible to have their fees paid by the Student
Award Agency Scotland (SAAS) and must apply directly to SAAS.
*If
you do not apply to have your tuition fees paid by SAAS or your application
is rejected, you are responsible for payment of your fees. Please contact the
Finance Office to arrange payment.
*Students
must re-apply to SAAS to have their fees paid if they are returning to college
for year 2 of a course, e.g. students who have completed their HNC and are returning
to follow an HND course.
*If
you withdraw from your course prior to 6th December 2003 the college will not
receive tuition fees for you from the SAAS, and you will be responsible for
payment of a proportion of your fees.
*Failure
to pay tuition fees will result in you being asked to withdraw from your course.
Part-time Students
Many part-time students
will not have to pay fees. You will be given advice during enrolment about whether
or not you need to pay.
Those
in receipt of Benefit and Registered Job Seekers
Students who are in receipt of Benefit or registered Job Seekers normally qualify
to have their tuition fees waived, subject to availability. Please note that
if you qualify for fee waiver you must provide proof of eligibility at the time
of enrolment, failure to do so may result in your having to pay fees.
Those
not in receipt of Benefit
Students who are not in Receipt of Benefit or eligible for any other discounts
will have to pay course fees. Those in this category may still be eligible for
assistance with travel, child care and other costs.
Lone parents in receipt
of Benefit
Students in this category
are normally allowed to study full-time on non-advanced courses and part-time
on any course without incurring penalties to Benefits. Students must apply for
an SAAS Award if they wish to study on a full-time HNC/D course. Students can
apply for an SAAS Loan, which may affect benefits. You must check this with
the Benefits Agency in the first instance.
Students in receipt of
Incapacity or Sickness Benefit
Students in this category
may be allowed to study on a part-time or full-time basis without Benefit penalties.
This would depend on your individual circumstances and choice of course. You
