The high quality of facilities and learner support available in the LITEhouse were recognized by SUfI (Scottish University for Industry) when it added the LITEhouse to its growing network of LearnDirect learning centers. On 21 June 2002, the LITEhouse was officially awarded its LearnDirect plaque by Peter Burdon, director at SUfI.

Flexible Learning Centre
Flexible Learning is a way of studying a subject without having to attend classes at regular times and is thus perfectly suited to those who cannot guarantee regular attendance at College and need to fit their studying around work, child care or any other commitments.

The Flexible Learning Centre, located on the lower floor of the LITEhouse, is a modern welcoming facility, providing 21 computers with a wide range of software to support the courses on offer.

The method of working in the Flexible Learning Centre is known as "Supported Self Study" where students work their way through the course material at their own pace and at times suitable to them with the support and advice of experienced tutors at hand at all times when required.

Guidance and Careers Information Centre
It provides expert assistance to ensure you have the necessary information about the options available to you. As well as discussing your particular career aim, you will receive information about careers and the most appropriate route into them.

Before you complete your course you can take advantage of the pre-exit guidance service. Whether you are going into the labour market or to other education courses, it can help you identify the options and choices that are right for you.

If you would like us to help you with free, unbiased information and friendly advice to allow you to make the right decision about your way forward, then contact

Student Services  to make an appointment with the Guidance Advisor.

Learning Support
This is available to all students on all of the courses. You will complete a Learner Action Plan at the beginning of your course, which will help you to clarify your objectives and identify possible obstacles or difficulties. You will also be asked to identify your likely requirements for support and assistance.

Your Guidance Tutor will arrange appropriate support and review your Learner Action Plan with you. Full details of Learner Support will be given to you at the Induction to your course.

Extended Learning Support
Some of the students require additional learning support to help them complete their studies. If you have a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, visual or hearing impairment, or if you think you may come into this category, you should ask for help as soon as possible, even before you start your course.

It has staff that can provide you with information on the support available, assess your learning needs and draw up a summary of the support you may be able to access from the College.

As this service is funded from students' bursaries/grants, early application to the College notifying us of any special requirements is to your advantage.

If you are applying to study an advanced programme (HNC, HND) then you should apply for support through the Disabled Students Allowance. It is advisable to consult with the specialist staff as they can help you assess your learning needs and support requirements.

Please contact Student Services  to make an appointment with the Guidance and Learning Support / Extended Learning Support Co-ordinator, who would be happy to discuss with you how you can be supported in your time at Langside College.
