There are no entry levels for these courses. Students are
allocated a class level following an English test prior to
starting classes

In general terms, an IELTS level of 5.0 or First Certificate
English, FCE, (or equivalent) is required to enter Scottish
Highers and Advanced Level, Higher National Certificate and
Higher National Diploma courses
English Language Courses
The English Language Teaching Unit has been offering
high-quality English Language and Business English Courses
for the last fifteen years.
Students can take full or part-time programmes (dependent on
visa specifications) and there are excellent facilities for
private study in the Library and Language Flexible Learning
Centre. The English Language Teaching Unit's highly
experienced teaching staff are all graduates with specific
English teaching qualifications.

- Cambridge Examinations (UCLES) at all levels up to
Advanced and
Proficiency
- IELTS (British Council English Tests)
- Trinity College, London-Speaking Tests

English courses provide excellent preparation for studies at
undergraduate level. It is important that International
Students take advantage of the English Language support on
offer, so that IELTS 5.5 (minimum) can be achieved before
students seek entrance to University.
