CHICHESTER CAMPUS
:
Chichester Campus is situated a short walk away from the main city centre. The
campus itself is always buzzing with life and there is always plenty to do in
the city.
HISTORY OF
CHICHESTER :
Chichester was found 2000 years ago, and was originally called Noviomagus. It
was founded by the Romans, evidence of which still remains today. Much of the
Roman wall still remains and the huge Roman Palace at Fishbourne is the largest
surviving Roman Palace in the whole of Northern Europe.
The Cathedral was
built about 900 years ago, around the 11th century. It is famous for its
magnificent architecture and works of art. It not only houses the shrine of
Richard, the Bishop of Chichester for 8 years, who became Saint Richard, but
also contains Romanesque stone carvings, modern paintings and sculptures and a
wonderful stained glass window.
The City still
follows a medieval plan and revolves around the main crossroads, with Market
Cross at the centre. Most of the hustle and bustle of the City can be found in
this area, in North, East, South and West Streets.
There are parks and
gardens hidden away and you get a real sense of the Roman past walking around.
The City is the perfect balance between history and atmosphere and modern day
activities and pastimes.
ACCOMMODATION
:

accommodation from full-board to self-catering and from host families to shared
student houses.
-
Westgate Halls of Residence
Opened in May 2003, this £3 million 160-bed residence provides en-suite
accommodation, largely for the growing numbers of international students. Each
flat has a kitchen/diner and all bedrooms have computer access and TV aerial
points.
Residents, who must be 18 years or over, are required to sign a license
agreement committing them to remain in the Halls for a fixed period, usually one
academic year, including holidays.
-
Woodlands Halls of Residence
Woodlands Hall is situated on the College Campus and provides full-board
accommodation for over a hundred students. It offers comfortable twin-bedded
study bedrooms, two lounges with televisions and a quiet room. There is also a
student common room on campus providing other leisure facilities. Meals are
taken at the refectory on site.
A warden is on duty day and night to give any help that may be needed. Woodlands
Hall is ideally suited for young people between the ages of 16-18.
The College has a register of properties, including St. Christopher's and
Blackboy Court (see below), which are available to students to lease under legal
tenancy agreements and which are managed by the College's Accommodation
Services.
-
St. Christophers
It is comprised of 13 flats and 6 houses and is approximately 10 minutes walk
from the College. It is close to a large supermarket and a leisure centre.
The amenities of the city centre are only a further 10 minutes walk from the
College.
Accommodation is provided for 64 students and 1 warden in
mainly single study bedrooms. Some twin-bedded
accommodation is also available. Flats are heated by
electricity which is operated on a key system. There is

Students live in the house with the owner and family and share facilities.
Breakfast and evening meal during the week plus lunches at weekends is included
in the price as is heating and, in most cases, laundry.
Students can specify whether they wish to be in a smoking
or non-smoking household or one with or without pets or
children. Rent is payable weekly in advance and a retainer
fee of no more than 25% covers the cost of storing your
possessions and ensures your exclusive retention of your
room during the college holidays.
-
Homestay - Self Catering
Owner-occupied accommodation similar to half-board lodgings in most respects but
with a greater degree of independence and flexibility as far as meals are
concerned. Students provide their own food and do their own cooking - including
washing up!
Laundry is also the students' responsibility, although the
owner's facilities are usually available. An all-inclusive
and reasonable price for accommodation, plus gas and
electricity, is almost always quoted.
